    Need new filter suggestions 75G

Hi all, I have a 75 gallon planted tank with CO2 injection. Been running it for years, probably close to 10 now. The first 2-3 years I used an old Marineland Magnum and then I upgraded to two Fluval 406's. The 406's recently developed a microbubble spitting issue, a real problem with a...

    blue-green algae (BGA) Maracyn question

I recently had a very nasty outbreak of BGA. I used hydrogen peroxide applied with a syringe directly on the BGA (still in the tank). Turn off all the pumps and squirt it right on the spot where it is growing. I used some air line attached to my 50ml syringe to directly spot dose. It will start...

    Help with algae

Yep, I have injected CO2 and have for a year. My problem came about when I left town for a couple weeks and didn't have my tank managed per instructions coupled with a busy holiday season (I work for the Red Cross to boot so I have been extra preoccupied lately) and there you go. Nothing died...

For those of you with pressurized CO2.

This is what I did: http://www.rexgrigg.com/diy-reactor.htm I get 6 months out of my 5lb cylinder. I don't worry too much about 'bubbles per minute' or anything like that. I use a drop checker coupled with CO2 and pH charts and all works fine for me, for the most part. Some negligence...

For those of you with pressurized CO2.

I have an almost identical set up as you do and I get about 6 months or so out of my 5lb cylinder. You can see a year and a half in my opinion, depending on how efficient your CO2 reactor is. I used a design by Rex Griggs and it works well in my opinion. Welcome to the hobby!

New RCS in 55 Gallon Planted

Thanks! The little thumbnail doesn't do it justice. The full size pic is unreal and it needed minimal Photoshop to have the colors pop. You can't see it in the photo but this female is loaded with eggs under the tail and should have more shrimp any day now. Too cool...

    Help with algae

Alrighty. Here's my waters tests and what I did to correct it. Keep in mind I haven't dosed since this last Wednesday. This is a 55 gallon moderately planted tank: Test Result NO3 20 ppm NH3 0 ppm pH 6.8 Fe 0 ppm (this is the Red Sea test. I am not convinced it...

New Tank - Using 'seed' material - Question

Yep, doing the water change today to keep it in check until it is all stable. Ammonia is zero and nitrites are at .2ppm this morning before the water change at 30%. Looks like it is all doing nicely. Thanks for all the advice!

New Tank - Using 'seed' material - Question

Doh! 20ppm, 2ppm. 5ppm, 0.5ppm.... It's all the same, right?? Thanks for noting that! I feel stupid now... I did dose Prime but I am still scared. I know it shouldn't hurt the fish but I just got into the red cherry shrimp and don't want to kill them off. Come to think of it, I don't want to...

New Tank - Using 'seed' material - Question

Yeah, I figured I'd test it before adding my new RCS. Well, the AP came back at 20ppm ammonia. I couldn't believe it so I tested with the Red Sea test and it came out at 0ppm... THEN I remembered WHY I had two test kits..... My water company recently switched to chloramine from chlorine. It...

New Tank - Using 'seed' material - Question

Thanks all. I was looking to do a 'transplant' of my current tank to a much smaller scale. I added a handful of danios from the main tank just now to see if I get a spike. Any further comments are very much welcomed! Thanks.
