wow you are lucky...
the salt creeps right up my power cord. almost like it is alive. never had salt creep before
you should have seen what it did to my hob skimmer before i put one in the sump.
how long has your tank been on line?
nah i had to destroy it. it was suffering terribly. the ick was litterly all over it. the fish was gilling like crazy and flipping and lying on its side and baking in the sun and unable to control its movement. im sure the ick had infected its gills and was slowly suffacating the fish.
i dont...
ok i got some ick in the pond had to detroy one fish (only fish) should i treat the pond for ick or just wait a couple of weeks before buying a new fish. btw i have a couple of frogs hanging out in the pond as well as some tadpoles so obviously i do not want to hurt them.
thanks
im all ears

i would highly recomend not having things hob. it only creates salt creep.
ive never had any salt creep then i added a power head and bam... salt creep all over the cord and anything the cord touches.
why do you want to grow them?
if you are using them for food. brine shrimp are very nutrious when newly hatched. about 48 hrs after mixing a batch. that is the reason to make your own.
i laughed when i first saw it in the store. but then i thought if you had a nano reef, it sure would be convenient.
i honestly have considered driving to the beach and filling a large sistern in the back of a pickup and bringing it home. it would be enough sea water for a whole year or more...
im sure thats it. there are two types of play sand, the beach sand stuff and the stuff that comes from a sandstone quarry (used for concrete). the quarry stuff is said to possibly cause cancer??? so the "experts" recomend the tropical play sand or beach sand.
couldnt you use a small pump that comes on to create the siphon for you.
i you drilled a small hole at the top of the siphon and connected a pump that returned back to the main tank. then when the power went off the siphon would break but when the power came back on the small pump would come on...
i wouldnt use an hd valve use one specific for the hobby it will not cause a drastic loss of flow . but yes it is expensive and will clog but not rust.
