New Fish Added to my Tank Die

Petsmart. I will try and get a fish from another store and test. However, all of the surviving fish in my tank are from the same place... I float the bag in the water for 20-30 minutes and then dump as much water out of the bag as possible. Then I put the fish in with the lights out and feed...

New Fish Added to my Tank Die

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I have a 55 gal tank with 4 female guppies, 1 male guppy and about 10 babies. There are 3 Cory Cats in it, one snail and one Pleco. The tank has been cycled and my Ammonia and Nitrite levels are at 0. My Nitrate levels are between 5 and 10. I do...

Livebearer Fry - Separate or not?

I'm glad. I just look at a plant and it dies. I don't have a green thumb at all. I once killed a cactus.

Livebearer Fry - Separate or not?

Thanks for the advice. I have a lot of plants in my tank. They are artificial (I'm not good with live plants) and they supply lots of cover for the babies. After I posted this, one of my females gave birth. There are five babies swimming in the tank and no one seems to want to eat them...

Livebearer Fry - Separate or not?

My friend and I are having this ongoing debate about baby fish in our tanks. I have four female guppies and 2 male guppies in my 55 gal tank. (I also have 5 neon teras, 4 cory cats and 1 pleco.) My friend has a 30 gallon tank with about 5 fancy guppies and ton of fry (too many to count)...

    Repairing a Leaking Aquarium

Thanks for the support, everyone. :) After reading more about Silcone I, I realized that I used Kitchen and Bath for my tank. And instead of scraping it all off and starting completely over, I decided to just get a new tank. So, I went to a PetCo near me and purchased a 55 gallon tank for...

    Repairing a Leaking Aquarium

I thought the same. That's what I used. (Not saying that it was the silicone's fault for the leak. It was mine, no doubt.) Silicone II is not safe for aquariums I know that for certain.

    Repairing a Leaking Aquarium

I'm depressed beyond belief. My 55 gallon glass tank sprung a leak today flooding our apartment. I vacated the residents to a smaller 20 gallon tank and completely emptied my 55 gal. I recently resealed it and thought everything was okay. One month later... Leakland USA. Bleh. Any tips for...

    Newbie Cycling Question

    Newbie Cycling Question

I bought the tank from an experienced aquarist. I wonder if there were some nitrates already in the gravel that I bought. It was still in old tank water when I got it. Also, I introduced a lot of plants, ornaments and gravel from one of my older cycled tanks. I'm wondering if that sped it...

    Newbie Cycling Question

Thanks tbone & rich. I will stock slowly when the cycling is done. I'm going to put the fish that are in my 20 gallon tank into the 55 gal. 4 guppies, 3 fry (I lost one) and 4 cory cats. I will make sure not to rush to put them in.

    Newbie Cycling Question

...I know the longtime posters must hate hearing these questions, but if you could spare me a couple of minutes, I'd appreciate it. Here's the history of my test during cycling. Tue Jun 20, 2006 9:17 pm Ammonia: 0.25 Nitrite: 0.00 Nitrate: 0.00 Thu Jun 22, 2006 7:56 pm Ammonia: 0.50...
