Good to know that there are other hobbyists in AR! There is a new store right across the street from park plaza mall. I think it's called the fish tank. Go check it out. It's SW only an has a big frag assortment and good prices.
Tank looks good! Have you thought about using a solid background like blue or black? They give more contrast to make the fish stand out and hide the cords on the back as well
They seem to like squid a lot too. I personally like the frozen krill or squid thats intended for aquariums. That way you know for sure you're not putting anything funky in the tank.
Thats good to know that they make one that goes that low. I used to be a reef fanatic and then got out of the hobby for a couple of years. I'm just getting back into it and a lot has changed. 20 ppm used to be as low a they would go.
It all depends on the type of coral. Most corals tend to feed almost entirely on light. Some corals like frogspawns, hammers, the larger mushrooms cups and even a few brains like occasional target feedings. Other corals like the orange sun polyps feed primarily on small crustaceans like mysid...
I would just like to say congrats on the nitrate level. Its hard to maintain a level that low.
As far as the smell... I doubt it's something to worry about. I have noticed it myself. It doesn't sound like that sulfuric, rotten egg smell that you get with die off on live rock.
You have to remember that in a new tank only enough bacteria gets established to handle the current ammonia production. When you add fish that ammonia production spikes again which can be more than your current bacterial colony can handle. You should be fine though as long as you are careful not...
