Back for a short time only

Well I'm not a new arrival, but it's definitely been a while since I was last here ;/ Things just got too hectic (changed jobs etc), but I'm back now...for 2 days...then overseas holiday :) Hopefully I'll have time in the new year to catch up with everything I've missed! EDIT: and with true...

Pics of newest and 6th cat

How about Java? Very, very cute kitten. I'm also looking out at our local SPCA, I want another kitten. Down to 3 cats at the moment, sniff.

What NOT to do when using your gravel cleaner

Valves? thats cheating! Anyway, you get a taste for tankwater after a while. One day I'll be able to tell my ammonia readings just from getting an accidental mouthful. Watch this space.

    Substrate separator for layered substrates

Don't know anyone in the US... UGF idea sounds interesting. Can play with it in a tank with no fish, see if it mixes.

    AA Member Biographies!!

Hi, my name is Giles and I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. I'm 20, and work in the IT dept at a engineering company. Hobbies are cars (just bought my Honda CRX), computers, reading, music...and fish of course. Got introduced to the hobby by a colleague (a salty) but figured FW would be easier to...

    I need Ideas.....

I just got a school of serpae tetra, and I would definitely recommed them. They are active, pretty, and they school fairly well. They're reasonably lazy swimmers, but at feeding time they go nuts. Beautiful to watch. Then for bottom feeders...There are some beatiful pleco's and loaches that...

    Substrate separator for layered substrates

I've spotted flourite once at a pet shop, but no Seachem products, or tahitian moon sand. I would love the tahitian, don't mind the cost of it, but unfortunately none of these products are available in SA. Maybe I should try shipping some over, though I haven't spotted any places that do...

    Substrate separator for layered substrates

Here's my problem...I want to set up a very simple looking, single species tank. I have a 29g that I have dedicated to the cause. I spraypainted the back and sides black, and have got a very nice big piece of mopani wood in it. I want the whole focus of the tank to be on the fish (a school of...

Here are a few pics of my shrimp...

Wow...I wish any of my LFS stocked shrimp. I can't seem to find them anywhere. What kind are the ones in the bottom pic? They're beautiful...look almost like SW clown fish from the top.

Looking for 29 gal stocking suggestions

My suggestion would be gourami's as well...you've got a wide range of choice with them, and some of them are really stunning. I wouldn't get any clown loaches though, they will eventually outgrow the tank. There are some nice loaches that don't get as big, maybe take a look for them.

You know what would be really neat?

Sounds like a great idea! I hate it when people decide they want a fishtank, and just go to a petshop and buy whatever takes their fancy. No research, no knowledge...And they end up with a 10 gallon stocked with 20 tetra's and a clown loach. Wish I had more time available...would love to do this.
