Its 10 gallons...I think I have space for 2-3. I dont want to add any schooling fish...I want to add more variety to the tank...so I'm looking for fishes that can be happy by themselves in company of the existing ones.
Yippie!! My blue-black betta (Bittu as I call him) is celebrating 1 month in my tank
I added newly purchased gravel (white epoxy coated ones to be safe) and my tank is all set. I bought 5 tertras a couple of weeks ago. I had doubts about Bittu and the new guests getting along with each...
Oh!! I'm so happy I've solved the problem and my fish seems all happy happy :)
I checked the water this morning and found everything under control. Its going to be real fun
For all your advice through the way:thanks:
Gravel poisoning
Thanks everyone!!
But I waited for your reply and disappointed with no reply for 3 days. So I went ahead to cycle using tetrasafe bottled bacteria.
Since there is no way fishes are going to die because of cycle issues in just 4-5 hours, I wanted to figure out the problem. It...
Help! Help! Help!
It has been a month into cycling. I've been adding ammonia and checking levels from time to time. Never had it drop below 1 ppm.
But I've not seen any traces of nitirites or nitrates yet. Tank temperature is 82F and tank is well aerated with air stone . I only add...
I checked the ammonia level this morning. It dropped to 2ppm. I added a few more drops to bring it to 4ppm.
Guys...I need some advice on the high pH levels!!
The cycle begins
Hey everyone! After over 10 days wait, I got my stuff to start the actual cycling....I was patient all along not touching my clean aquarium much and just let it be.
I tested my dechlorinated water with the Api Master Kit before adding ammonia and the results read as:
pH : 7.6...
In the meantime...I'd like suggestions for stocking my tank. I love fishes that are colorful :fish1: and visible...I dont want to stock a dozen:nono:....I'd be happy with just 4 in my 10 gallon tank as far as they are visible and colorful and most important happy:fish2:
Okay!! So started from scratch...I emptied my tank; cleaned the decos and gravel, changed filters. I've added water from the tap; added 5ml of api stress coat+. I will be starting a fishless cycle. I'm sure I cannot find ammonia in my neighborhood...so I ordered :DrTim's Aquatics Ammonium...
I am restarting right away. Will get some pure ammonia and the master test kit tomorrow and let you know about my progress in which way I can stop right away when I'm going wrong.
Thank you so much!! I have gathered up some hope and some people to trust on this issue!!:thanks:
I am planning to do the same. I am starting all over again. I plan to clean my tank and again start from scratch. I hope nothing goes wrong this time. I have been using api strips to test...but now I am going to invest in the master kit and some pure ammonia...hope I dont fail all over again!
I am totally convinced with the pet store guy at petco. He is well experienced and refused to sell me fishes personally when he saw nitrites in my water sample. I think he knows what he is doing. I transported the fish in 15 minutes in an insulated bag to keep temperature change to the minimum...
Thanks Mrc8858! I will do that...try a fishless cycling....But do you think fishes die within few hours if the tank is not cycled? As far as I read through many cases, they seem to survive atleast for a couple of days even in a tank that s not cycled!
