As a natural hybrid it's impossible. Maybe in a petri dish. But even then I think it's not going to work. And even if mitosis starts, the question is whether the embryos will survive.

Thanks, Andy. Well, I do understand that everybody's got their own preferences when it comes to coloration, pattern and bodyshape when buying platies. But it's still such a shame that wild forms are lacking popularity. In the network I'm in, the majority prefer wild forms instead of breeding forms.

Technically and theoretically, a platy can give birth every 3-4 weeks. But that doesn't mean that she will always have a steady period of time that she will drop fry. For the female herself will decide if she'll open up 1 or more folds of her fallopian tube to release 1 or more stored sperm...

Most mollies have a gestation period between 6-8 weeks. So, longer than a guppy, platy or even swordtail.
