is old test kit still good?

Do these NH3/NO2/NO3 testing kits go bad? I guess mine is 5 years old or so, and I'm trying to start a new tank, and I'm wondering if I have to buy new chemicals.

swim bladder problem -- need high fiber food?

I think my clown loach has swim bladder problem, since he has taken to sleeping upside down at the top of the water. He still swims around fine though. I read up about it, and it says feeding him high fiber food might help. My question is, what is that? What do I pick up when I go to the pet...

    clown loach -- AZ/CA

I got a 2-inch clown loach before I realized that they grow up to be big, and I can't handle a big fish. Anyone want him? His name is Cy. :) He's not going to be happy by himself in my 5 gallon tank, and I'm not ready to get a bigger one yet. I live in Tucson now, but I'll be in LA for...

    betta isn't dead yet

Thank you all for your kindness and advice. The fish was dead this morning -- if he hadn't been I would have done the deed right away. Thanks again.

    betta isn't dead yet

Okay, I just need some encouragement on the right thing to do. If that is it, the instant submerge in freezing water thing doesn't sound too hard.

    betta isn't dead yet

Saturday evening my betta was fine. Sunday afternoon he was on the bottom of the tank breathing hard, with every fin ripped to shreds. I put him in a bowl by himself so the (little) clown loach wouldn't bother him. I thought for sure he'd die soon, so I didn't worry about it. But today...

Diary of the 29G planted tank... New pics 4/28/07

What does the bleach dip do for the plants/tank? ( guess that was on page 1 ) Edit: never mind -- I didn't see how many pages there were when I posted this -- you answer the question on page 2, thanks!

    Black background or Busy background?.....

Sanding the glass would make the paint stick better -- important if you want your results to be permanant. However, if you want to be able to wash or scrape off the paint when you want a new style, don't sand!

    Black background or Busy background?.....

I assume you have light colored fish? If you have any dark ones they'll get lost against a black background. Otherwise, I'd always vote for plain over busy. But then, my tank has no background at all!

clown loach nipping at heater suction cups!

Although I wouldn't be opposed to frogs, snails, or shrimp in a bigger tank, I was kinda hoping for 2 swimming-around fish in this one. Do these frogs not need to breathe air?

clown loach nipping at heater suction cups!

*sigh* yeah, I've only got a 5 gallon. I knew the loaches got big, but I thought he'd work in there for a while. Do you have a better suggestion for a 5 gallon tank betta friend?

clown loach nipping at heater suction cups!

I just got a clown loach to hang out with my Betta, and everything is going great. I'm just very confused because the loach seems to have a vendetta against the suction cups holding the heater to the side of the tank. He'll go over and nip at them, and I can actually hear a popping noise when...

    Don't do what I did.

I'm so sorry! That must really hurt. Are you going to get more?
