Fish dying in 135g planted tank

My wife started a 135g planted tank several weeks ago. Tank was cycled properly before adding fish. Substrate is Black Diamond blasting sand. Filter is Fluval FX6 canister. Parameters are: Ammonia, 0 ppm; Nitrate, 0 ppm; Nitrate 20 ppm; PH 7.2; GH & KH both 75-100. In the course of about 3...

    Oscar tank

Truthfully, 75s are my favorite size also. We have everything from 20g to 400g, but my favorite setup is a double stand with 2 75s.

    Rokteil Severum

They are pretty. Maybe the most striking of all Severum.

Can kuhli loaches be kept with tiger barbs?

My first choice would be to introduce them all together, right before lights out. Otherwise, I would put the kuhlis in first, if you're only going to do one species at a time.

Can kuhli loaches be kept with tiger barbs?

First, I would do more than 3 kuhlis; at least 5 or 6, as they like to be in groups, and you'll see them more often during the day if they feel comfortable. I've never kept tiger barbs with kuhlis, but I have kept various other barbs with kuhlis. Generally, as the barbs are more mid-level fish...

    Potted vs unpotted plants

First, let me apologize for the plethora of questions I have in this forum. Usually, my wife makes me ask. Why she won't do it her self. . . Anyway, she now wants to know how difficult it is to get unpotted plants to root, or should she concentrate on potted plants that already have roots...

    Best site for online plants

Thank you all for your responses. My wife is agonizing over choosing plants, and has shopping carts started on several sites. This project may cause us to go broke.

    Rokteil Severum

If memory serves, the male was about 7 inches, the female a bit less. I also remember them being very nervous fish, who hid whenever there was activity outside the tank.

    Getting back in the hobby

Discus are loose schooling fish, and prefer the company of other discus. For a 75g, I would probably start with 5-6 juveniles, with the intention of getting a couple good m/f pairs, and rehoming the others. You could keep a couple angels with the discus, but use caution, as both discus and...

    Best site for online plants

Thanks, Angel. Not a big fan of Ebay, but that looks like a great starter set, at a good price. Will show my wife in the morning, as she makes all executive decisions.

    Rokteil Severum

I've kept several species of Severum over the years, and the care of most species is fairly similar. Did you have a specific question?

    Getting back in the hobby

Welcome back to freshwater. To begin with, Discus are cichlids. Pricey, yes, but one of the few cichlids that can go in a tank with live plants. Also, if your water parameters are right, Discus are fairly easy to breed, and great parents, so most of the fry will survive. If you live in a sizable...

    Best site for online plants

Now that we have the 135g cleaned up, a supply of Black Diamond blasting sand located, and my wife has her livestock list, we're about ready to order plants. We have several LFSs in our area, but none carry a large variety of plants, so we're going to order online. That being said, what is the...

    Oscar tank

Bigger is always better, it's true, and 120g would be better than 70. 70g would be about 4 ft long, however, and should give ample room for 2 separate territories, if the fish can get along. I've been told often that JDs and Oscars are incompatible, but I've had them together several times...

    135g planted tank advice

Thanks, Brookster, and ZxC. We're looking into black diamond blasting sand; we like the sound of an all black substrate. Just not sure where to find it locally yet.
