To be honest, I was considering getting all males. I don't particularly want my fish producing a tank full of fry that I'm not ready for. On the other hand, bettas can be really beautiful, and then there's no question of whether I might end up with a new, unexpected population.

The main problem with tank size is that my landlord has a rule where fish tanks must be 10 gallons or smaller. Otherwise I probably would go for something larger. As it is, I need to figure out what I can safely and conveniently do with 10 gallons. :( Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely check...
