My first real attempt at a freshwater tank

Update Okay so it's been a couple months and I think things are finally coming together. Here's the latest look: Aquarium March 2013 - YouTube -Eliminated all the "man made" decor and added two pieces of driftwood. -Added a DIY CO2 Generator that seems to be doing a great job. -Switched to...

My first real attempt at a freshwater tank

Alright. Are they of significant value? Any chance of selling/trading at the LFS? (I mean, is that something that is normally done?) Once I've found them a new home, how overstocked do you think I am? Also, anyone have any opinions to share on my plants? They seem to be doing well but...

My first real attempt at a freshwater tank

How soon will they need a bigger tank? I can't afford a larger one at the moment. I may have to see about getting rid of them. I am unsure of the filter, I'm sure it came with the tank when he bought it. Aqueon is the brand. I'll look around for a model #. Right now I'm changing a little...

I've been afraid of that. How severe would you say? What is the consequence?

My first real attempt at a freshwater tank

This is a two minute video of our 29 gallon freshwater tank. The tank and most of its inhabitants were given to us. We added plants and a few more residents. I've gotten some help on what all of the fish are, I'm only unsure of the two biggest shark looking guys. The video says there's...

New Guy, New tank, new fish, new PITA

Ok, so far so good. Haven't lost any more fish and the angel fish looks much better. I've been doing PWC (That means partial water change, right??) every day or two in both the 29 gallon tank and the betta tank. I definitely want a python, but they aren't exactly giving them away.... anybody...

New Guy, New tank, new fish, new PITA

Thanks! Almost forgot, no filter in the betta tank, although I did add a snail (one that won't reproduce in fresh water) at the suggestion of the LFS guy, tossed a few in the bigger tank as well. I have been doing frequent 50% water changes in the betta tank as well.

New Guy, New tank, new fish, new PITA

New filter media :/ Those fish came with the tank, so I'll start looking for a new home soon I guess. I was afraid of that. I'm afraid the previous tank owner did little to no research before selecting/adding fish.

New Guy, New tank, new fish, new PITA

Alright, so I've been watching my levels, and have performed one 30% water change followed by a 15% water change about 24 hours later. Roughly 8 hours after that last change I'm showing 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, and 10ppm Nitrates. This is good right? Too soon to think it's cycled though right...

I'm clear on the swordtail, but I am wondering about the two much larger fish that actually look like sharks....

I'm not even going to apologize for the dumb questions.... The light, leave it on all the time? Off at night? Get a strobe for effect? (kidding) Edit: / Scratch that. Just read in the Noob guide to turn the lights off at night.

Thanks! How about the sharkish looking fellas? Anyone know what kind of plants those are? You guys are a huge help!! I'm planning on frequent tests and water changes for a while.

Thanks a ton. Bought the test kit today and just finished a water change. Apparently what I've inherited is plenty of work! Anybody care to help me identify what sort of fish I've got in there?
