- I have a 100 gallon tank that I've had for years. I've raised Tropical freshwater, Lake Malawi cichlids, Red belly piranhas. I had my lake malawi cichlids for the past 8 years the my last one died couple months ago. Now, I'm setting up a tropical tank again, probably will raise angel, but will have other types as well. My son is interested in it, so its a great opportunity to teach him and I might learn something new as well. BTW, I've never raised plants before and it something he's interested in doing, so what the heck. Time for me to learn as well. We just set it up, couple big aquarium rocks and a 27" long driftwood. I don't know the width, it's already in the tank and didn't measure before hand. Anyway, we put three big rocks on top to keep it on the bottom until it gets waterlog. Its been a week now, so it should be too long now. We tested the water and it pretty close to what it needs to be. Another week or so, it will be time to start.
