You could do a non-intrusive alternative. If it's a small infestation of Hydra, you could physically remove them from the tank by scrubbing and soaking all aquarium decor and artificial plants in bleach. Or there are certain fish and snails that will eat Hydra. Such as certain gouramis and pond...
