2nd Sick Betta in a month - fin rot/fungus? Help needed

Hello all Unfortunately my lovely red Betta had to be put out of it's mysery recently as it was suddenly struck down with illness and was clearly suffering. Having changed water & cleaned the tank I recently bought and added a new Betta to the tank last weekend, and in the space of one day...

Wanted: Tank cleaners and bottom feeders for daily chores

Thanks guys Sounds like it's a debate between the snails or the shrimp for me then. Quite like the idea of a couple of shrimp in there I must say

Wanted: Tank cleaners and bottom feeders for daily chores

Hello all Right, advice time if you'd be so kind. Having had a small disaster with a murderous red crab, I'm after some advice before I go off and do something else a little daft. I'd quite like to add a new life to my tank that will help keep the place clean and tidy. Not that the tank is at...

    Betta Behavior

They are very interesting in terms of behaviour. Not only is mine extremely inquisitive but he does also explore everything and likes to rub against things and force through gaps (between tank and thermometer for example). In particular he seems to like swimming through a mass of floating plant...

Red Claw crab - it's eating the fish!

Fortunately there's a great aquatic centre (aquatic design centre on Great Portland Street) in Central London that specialises in large installations, exotic species, etc. Not only do they know their stuff but they'll also advise on how to best stock, care for, etc. Refreshing to find someone...

Red Claw crab - it's eating the fish!

How funny I wonder if it's a difference in sex or size then. The little fella I had was about 2.5cm across (legs included). Was hugely active, not phased by the fish at all(evidently!). He actually took and part devoured an angel fish that was slightly larger than him.

    Betta not eating

How funny, I did have to do that with mine too. Point to the food as it goes into the tank and then you see him catch on and off he goes after it. At first I was just putting a few pieces in at time and doing that. Daft fish!

    Betta not eating

I found that mine would turn his nose up at everything for the first few days. Here's what I've learnt of his preferences so far though. 1. He doesn't like overly large particles of food - I feed on micro granules or micro pellets and that's fine. Any larger pellets he cannot fit in his chops...

Red Claw crab - it's eating the fish!

Hello all Yes, I'm learning fast! Sad to say that over the last few months I'm becoming aware that the guys at my local shops know or care very little about what they sell... in some cases I've been a little misinformed I think. The crab's finding a new home this morning in a professional...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

Well, I like the idea of a low maintenance companion in my home - would not have the time for a dog. It's quite simple for me. I do a particularly stressful job with irregular hours. Fish a re very relaxing to watch and since setting up the tank I sleep far more peacefully! Downside...

Anyone keep frozen worms in the fridge?

I use such a small amount that - a couple of spoonfulls at most, that it's pretty irelevant as, compared to the volume of your tank, it's a minute trace. Would imagine if it's already warmed up or even been boiled before in the kettle (perhaps from your morning brew) you'll have evaporated all...

Red Claw crab - it's eating the fish!

It's a conspiracy I tell you. It's just like that 'invasion' programme on the TV! Pretty soon we'll all be sitting at home, serenely feeding our lovely big tanks full of little evil tempered crabs and shell dwelling fish munchers! What next? It's US I tell you!! (he watches me when I walk...

Anyone keep frozen worms in the fridge?

Hello. I would think 2-3 days max as small foodstuffs deteriorate very quickly. I keep frozen food for my fish (bloodworm) as treats / supplements I prepare this in less than a minute. Take the frozen cube from the packet, pour a little warm water from the kettle (not fully boiled, just...

Red Claw crab - it's eating the fish!

Yeah, although right now he's just lucky that he's to small to become a crab cake!!

Red Claw crab - it's eating the fish!

Hello Yes, shame I didn't find you guys earlier. Could have saved a small, but much treasured life. Thanks for the welcome too. The tank's a 30 litre but there's a few bits to climb on and this little crab's clearly trained himself to the level of a 'Ninja'. I'd heard that about Angels and...
