You can always make a lid yourself. It took me one trip to Lowe's, 22$ and about 10 minutes of prep to make one for my 55g at home. I followed this guy's I instructions and it was easier than I thought it'd be.

So. I've got a 55 gallon that I'm relocating the tetras currently in my 20 gallon-high to. I'm really tempted though to try out a blackwater set up with the old 20 gallon, as I've had it cycled for 7 years now and it seems a shame to take it down. It would just be driftwood, sand substrate, leaf...
Great to hear! I checked the order and realized I got the EA instead of the DA by accident, that would be why it was $15 cheaper than I originally thought I guess [emoji28]. Glad it should work well!
I had the same issue, everything already mentioned helped but the most important was cutting the lights to 6hrs. There's still some BBA but when I do water changes I use a hard bristle toothbrush to scrub at problem spots and keep it at bay.
Impatient, spent an hour sawing the 40lb piece of wood down to fit and stuck it in the tank with 20 lbs of rock holding it down just to get it out of my tub. Will probably adjust it's placement when it sinks... in 6 months. The tank's making some ominous creaking noises and I'm not sure if it's...
Replaced the lid on the tank with a Lowe's DIY sliding glass lid. People are so clever for figuring this out.
I ended up ordering the 48" Beamswork DA-FSPEC LED as suggested after all, should be in by mid-October so I guess I'll hold off ordering plants until closer to then. Not really...
Yeah, know plants are really down to personal preference and what happens to be for sale but I appreciate the suggestions! I've pretty much just been reading up on what my LFS has and what's currently up on aquabid, but some of your ideas I haven't read up on yet so I'll keep an eye out.
Thanks for the suggestions! I think I might do the Beamswork as I'd like not having to worry about bulbs with an LED unit, but the Fluval Plant is a bit out of my budget. I wanted some floating plants anyway so that'll block the harsh light.
About the CO2, oops I guess I've been thinking about...
So I haven't used this account since 2011, since I was a teenager posting about my very first tank which my mom finally let me buy after much begging and a speech about responsibility... 7 years of education and several jobs later, I still have that same 20g high running now with 9 serpae tetra...
And don't say because your pet shop bettas are breeding that means they are very healthy, that just means you are bringing more fish into the world to likely stunt from malnutrition and torture.

It doesnt matter how you feed yourself in your life, starving your pets for a 3 months, a quarter of the year, is not right just because you think they won't die and ooh it keeps the tank "clean". This is like people that try to turn carnivores vegan. Do you really think gourami in the wild go a...
I have some of those dissolve blocks but last time I used them my fish seemed kind of ill when I came back. I heard about those automatic feeders but I've also seen a lot of people post they were unreliable so I didn't know why to do? Also I wasn't sure if even with the heater in the tank if the...
I like the idea of maybe sticking them securely in my checked bag and I can add a heater pack, I'll look it up. I just don't want to risk them dying while I'm gone.
