If it weren't for experimenting we wouldn't know how good a skimmer is for our tanks or that some lighting is better than others or how a reef tank will suck all the money from your pockets and leave you wanting more.

You know for someone that had the worst luck when changing tanks, you sure are having some of the best luck with your animals!

I totally understand the pain that your pocket will experience, I had no idea till I started then it was to late to give up so I had to finish ( OUCH!)

how much live rock are you planning on getting, the recommended amount is 1.5lbs per gal.

the one on ebay is the same one that I got and the skimmer is crap, you dont need the bio-balls, the pumps havent given me a problem yet but they definitly arent the best. you'll need to buy a better skimmer anyway so you might as well do that instead and spend the rest of the money on a plain...

The sand was "live sand" and with the ph's on that side of the tank I finally got them to stop blowing the sand around and the current continually sweeps the crap straight up to my overflow. also with the ph's on that side I have a strong flow on the right and a medium to low flow on the left...

White Fiji sand from online. This is what it looked like the day I put it in (after it settled of course). Theres a little over 3" in there.

I dont want to cut out the light all together because of the coral but I have cut my T5's down to 5 hrs and the MH to 3 hrs. Where else can the nutrients be coming from besides pwc and feeding? if anywhere. I will have to agree with excess nutrients since I have a heavy growth of feather...
