I havent found many more colorful freshwater fish then the neon tetras. I got 9, 3 weeks ago and havent lost 1. 2 of my most colorful fish in my tank are Boesemani Rainbows (orange and Blue) and baloon belly blue rams.

Thought at great lengths about Discus, but they need such a high temp and I want variety, Im not sure many fish other then Discus can thrive at 85is degree temps.

Also, most of what I read about Bala's is they will commonly grow to 8". They can grow to 1'6" but its extremely rare for them to go over 8" in a home aquarium. Had my hopes on Bala. My son is in love with them. Is there something similar that will NOT grow so big? Looks like and acts like?

Agreed that it is an interesting theory. It makes a difference too when considering my stock. I might cut the suggested number for schols. Instead of say 6-8 Bala Shark, I can go 3 and grab an additional type of scholing fish. More variety works for me.

If you want an exact ammount, put tap water into the cap, then poor it into a medicine cup. For your 10gallon, divide that number by 20%, for the 20 gallon, 40%. Id eyeball it on the cap though. Just do a little less then half the cap for the 20 gal, and half that for the 10 gal. Thats just me...
