Never trust a catfish. Lol. Yet I have at least one in every tank of mine.

I love them! I use laminated glass on the top of my big tank so it is not feasible to put a HOB on my aquarium. All I have to do is run the cord through the access holes that I already have in the glass and we are good to go. The only thing is that they do take up room inside the tank.

What is you water change schedule?

If you have room in your tank you could run an internal filter. I use a cascade 600 and it is only about 30$ on Amazon. I use the 600 in 3 tanks as secondary filters and am very pleased with it.

I have my 55 gallon goldfish tank right beneath my tv and have never had any issues with it stressing the fish out.

Nope I got it with several other fish in a rescue. I also got a pair of breeding angels, a 4 line pim, a featherfin, and several fish for my community tank.

I think you would be fine just put a heater on each end of the tank. Currently in my 55 grow out tank all I have is a 100 watt and it works just fine.
