I did 2 50% water changes with RO water (different days) and he has been doing great. I'm not sure if it was ammonia or constipation or swimming bladder but he has never been so active and is eating well.
I bought an RO system for my house so I'll be using that for all water changes. Testing...
I am on well water but I do put prime in with each water change. I think the tank is still cycling which is likely the source of ammonia. I just did a 50% water change and used RO water and a double dose of prime.
I am testing with the API master test kit (liquid).
I am not a fan of this...
1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
Betta. He seems very lethargic and it has gotten worse. Started about a week or 2 ago. He did eat yesterday morning but since then has...
Thanks! I had to remove the carbon to treat for ich and just left it out. Seems like mixed opinions on running carbon. I am using it on my 20 and 40 gallon tanks with aquaclear hobs. Though I don't change it out as often as I should, don't really have anything against it.
I'll run without it...
I have a fluval fx6 and just wanted to make sure I have the media in the correct trays.
The top tray I have the black bio foam pad that came with it.
The middle tray (technically 2 trays as it splits them) I have the bio max media that came with it.
The bottom tray I have a blue fine filter...
Thanks! Water flow is fine so I'll leave it alone as I don't want to mess up the cycle. The pot scrubbers look like a great idea. My filter is a little different (aquaclear 70) but I might be able to squeeze 1 in there.
Tank seems cycled now. Ammonia and nitrites are at 0 after 24 hours. Nitrates were above 40 so I did a 60-70% water change. Now they are around 20 so might do 1 more change to lower it before adding fish.
When should I remove the filter pad that I put in for seed material?
I was able to get an old filter pad from someone and what a difference once I put that in my filter. Within 2 days, I had a nitrite spike and ammonia dropped and the tank was crystal clear. Also seeing the nitrates increase quite a bit.
I think I'm close because now the Ammonia levels are...
I have a 40 gallon breeder that I am trying to do a fishless cycle with. All decorations and substrate is in, filter is up high (Aquaclear HOB 70) and I have an air pump on and no light. Temp is set to 86. Up until early this week I was putting in 2 caps of stability daily. I can't seem to get...
Ok thank you. I just tested it and ammonia is still low at .25 but it is only day 3. I might get some ammonia this weekend and try that instead of the fish food and see if that elevates the ammonia levels a bit more if it doesn't start to increase with the food.
I just got a 40 gallon breeder on Sunday, added the substrate and decorations (all thoroughly rinsed). On Monday, I filled the tank (well water) and added 4 cupfuls of Seachem stability along with setting up the filter and added a pinch of food. Tuesday, I added the heater and set it to 80 along...
