we spent about $80 for our first tank. We had to get decorations, gravel, etc. We are hoping to get a 29 or 30 gallon soon, so I'm saving up $200 just because we will need to get the tank and some other things.

Every time when we test our water, it's usually before we clean the tank. We've been told our pH is low and out nitrate is high, so we check those every day. When we regularly test, we check pH, nitrate, nitrite, hardness, ammonia, and alkalinity.

We have to feed once a day because our nitrate is high.

yeah.. Yeah, I see what you're saying about the testing. testing before cleaning the tank would be more accurate. The tank is 10 gallons. We have an Aqueon Medium sized filter system. We don't have air stones, and really, I don't know what those are. And thanks for telling me about the test...

Well, they have been fine recently. When we first got them, we were changing out the water too much, and they got sick. Then after that we found out they were oxygen deprived. After that,(yeah, I know, lots of things) we had to get a flourescent light for the tank because the one we had was...

well.. When I test, I usually test after we clean the tank. I check for ammonia, pH, nitrite, nitrate, hardness, and alkalinity. We clean the tank about every 2 weeks.
