Why on earth would you put him in with a betta? Just out of curiosity.

I always had luck with bloodworms when feeding them, but most meaty foods like that should do well. They relish snails but I'd make sure they're small ones. 3 in a 10 gallon SHOULD be fine, but that depends on the individual fish. And though it's already been settled, yes, they're freshies. :)

Alright, I'll try and convince the 'rents that's the best way to go.

We kinda live out in the middle of nowhere. :) But I could see if we have any small containers I could label and such for when my grandparents drop by to check on our horse... Just for one feeding or so over those 6 days.

I keep saying that but my parents are all "blah blah blah they'll be dead blah blah" and I'm all "Um, no they won't, I usually see people advised to just not feed them if it's only a week or so" and they don't listen. >.>

What should I do in terms of fish feeding? I'll be gone for a week (well, about 6 days)... And I know I don't want those vacation feeder things (the ceramicy ones) because everything I've read says they'll just foul the water.

Ropefish are relatively undemanding in terms of space, for their length (from what I've seen). I also doubt highly that one would reach more than about 2' in captivity, and they certainly don't mind being in groups... But if you do decide to go with dojo loaches, they'll be completely fine with...

Yoyo loaches, maybe. Or most small botias, I'd assume. Yoyo, skunk, and others of that sort.

How many/what types of bichir (rope fish included) can go in a 55? (Not necessarily the one in my sig, just generally speaking)

I've been having a losing battle with otos, buying a few and losing 2/3 of them overnight... So I finally bought six and figured I'd lose several, and I've yet to lose one. They keep it nice and clean, my tank went from horribly brown to like new in about a day and a half.

I have no experience with Africans and only a bit with South Americans, but I prefer the SA/CA varieties, myself. Larger (typically), and more personable. Not as fantastically colored but I still prefer them.

African or South/Central American?

Two should be fine in a 55. The local bichir expert has always agreed with that too (can't remember his/her screen name, sorry!). I'd wait 'til they're about the same size though, I've heard stories (and seen pictures) of canibalism.

I've never heard 4ft before... Maybe with clown knifes, but not with BGK.
