Hmmm..... I use A UV sterilizer in my 90 galleon, and it removes all trace of iron in the tank!. I dont know what the reasons behind this are, but I swapped from liquid to slow release ferts and I have had great results and have never "daily dosed" again.

Will a submersible light benefit plants? Im looking at sticking in a 30w Halogen in the back of the tank for cosmetic reasons as I am already running 2.4 wpg of NO, but was not sure if this submersible would figure into the wpg equation

If possible, check all your levels and post them. Also, tell us what kind of lighting you are running. IMO, from the information you have given, the sunlight may be the cause, but there are many other variables to consider. What do you mean by soft sunlight?

I am pretty sure the ph is this high because of the smattering of 9mm white river stones (a product of india if this is relavent) I put in my tank a few months back. My tap water sits at 6.8 ph so this is the only thing I can think that has caused it. Fish and plants are fine. Ill do the test...
