So I have taken your advice and done some research. In an article I read it talks about redox + said it will reduce the DOC/DOX load in the tank. Anyone ever use it for cyano algae? What problems have been experienced with it?
Fluff
Yes, the algae is growing on a coral skeleton. When I purchased my live rock it was on it.

I am using DI water from the LFS. I don't know if I have a tester for phosphates. If not, I will pick one up and post later. I have a new light purchased on-line. It is a dual 65 watt...
I am going to try and add a picture this is my first attempt. I hope it works!
The algae starts off kind of slimy and has a lot of air bubbles on it and in it. Then it darkens and becomes thick. I have hermit crabs, and several types of snails (4 conch, 12 that bury themselves under the sand...
Has anyone seen this before? It has appeared on the glass of my tank twice and each time it disappeared after a couple of days. I am not sure if it's some type of worm or possibly snail residue.
I have a 29 gal tank. I have been changing 5 gals every couple of weeks. However, I am not sure what the correct procedure is. I am concerned I am doing it incorrectly. Would anyone care to elaborate on the correct procedure?
My current procedure.

This site seems to have good prices on lighting as well. http://www.webaquatics.com/?src=overture&OVRAW=current%20saltwater%20lighting&OVKEY=lighting%20retrofit&OVMTC=advanced
I would agree, it is the brown cycle from being a new tank. I went through the same thing. I have a 29 gal tank and was told to buy a dozen snails and Hermits. Sure enough, they devoured it in no time. depending on how much live rock you have in the tank and that you have a 90 gal tank, you may...
WOW! Thanks for all the great advice. I will check out sdreefs.com. I am a newbie so I haven't quite figured out how to add pics and explain my setup. I will check out the book as well.
My tank is 29 gal and about a month old. It has gone through its cycle and things are starting to come alive...
I am considering adding corals to my tank. However, I have heard some here talk about broken pieces of something that will grow what is in them. Does anyone know what I am trying to say?
It wasn't my idea, at first!
We received a call from a family friend (FF) for many years. They were in the process of moving to another town and told us they couldn't take their fish tank. The only fish they had was a FW sucker that must have been 5+ years old. It was huge. I reluctantly agreed...
Someone said diatoms before but the LFS said it wasn't. I followed the advice of the person on this site that recommended snail and hermits. WOW! Do those suckers love to eat. "Literally" I think the snails do a much more thorough job but they seem to leave a lot more waste. It is very fun to...
I was reading a thread on starting a tank and someone mentioned the brown cycle. My rocks are getting a brown furry like substance on them and it is spreading through out the tank. I was told to get some snails and hermits to contain it by someone on this site but after speaking to the local...
