    dwarf gouramis

Maybe it's different in the UK but i had no problems getting females from my usual lfs, and i think it's a shame that they have a reputation for being drab or dull looking as they're really quite pretty, even if they aren't as striking as the males. ...at least I think these two are females!

Do you still eat fish or shrimp, lol

I've thought the same thing sometimes, but then we eat some small mammals i.e. pigs and sheep and keep other small mammals as pets i.e. cats and dogs. Also lots of people eat rabbit and lots of people keep rabbits as pets. Keeping animals or fish as pets is stranger than eating them in some...

    I finally got my gouramis!

Flippin heck, these guys don't half poo! They must be pooing more than they're eating, they're like little poo machines!

    I finally got my gouramis!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D I'm so chuffed I've been after a dwarf gourami for so long now and the lfs had stopped ordering them because in the hot weather they weren't surviving the journey to the shop. But this morning it occurred to me that it's been a bit cooler recently so I...

How do you tame a gourami?

I agree. Male gouramis are notoriously randy little buggers. Although we humans might not approve one male gourami is often too much for only one female.

    funny fish names

most of my fish don't have names as I can't really tell them apart but one of the harlequins is much smaller than the rest so he's called PeeWee and one of the pristellas is much bigger than the others so she's called Bertha (named after a children's TV character here in the UK who's a big...

    middle/upper swimmers

I have 6 harlequin rasboras and I reckon you'd love them. If you google them they look pretty dull in most of the pictures you get back but under lights they have this almost ethereal orangey glow which is just gorgeous. They are really active schooling fish and generally very joyful little...

    algae!

I think I have the same type of algae - greeny brown and wipes away quite easily. I have a green scrubby thing like the one I clean my kitchen pots and pans with and I just wipe it off with that (I don't clean the pots and pans with the same one  ) once a week when I change the water. I...

    Can't decide...

I've got a 28 gallon tank which currently houses 5 pristella tetras, 6 harlequin rasboras and one whiptail catfish. The tank has been set up around 4 months and everyone seems happy so far. I'm hoping to get a few dwarf gouramis but my lfs have had some supplier problems so no joy on that...

    Gourami advice

I'm hoping to get dwarf gouramis too and the advice I've seen in various places is that you should get 2 females for each male because they can be randy little blighters! Also the males are territorial so if you were to get more than one male you'd have to make sure there's enough room for each...

    worms?

thanks...i just did a water change and fed them! having said that they munched their flakes pretty quickly so I was thinking about giving them a bit more so i'll try them on some peas. thank you I have noticed now some of the strings on the floor, there are quite a few in the area i didn't...

Have I Screwed Up Horribly Already?

I'd second the comments about harlequin rasboras and pristella tetras. They're very active, especially the harlequins, and should only grow to about 2 inches. I've get a plant food called leaf zone. You just need to add it once a week which I do when I do a water change. Nice and easy.

    worms?

Most of my harlequin rasboras have these strings coming out of their bums, I'm guessing probably worms but as the lfs is shut now any of you advise? I've attached a picture but I'm afraid I couldn't get a decent one as the harlequins never stay still!! It just looks like a fine brown...
