Cool. Thanks guys!
So i did a 40% water change last night. I just tested my water and these are the results.
Nitrate: 10 ppm
Nitrite: seems very much like 0 but the colors in the chart look almost identical so i will say 0.5 ppm
Total Hardness: 75 ppm
Total Chlorine: 0 ppm
Total Alkalinity...
I dont know if this has anything to do with the drastically lowered ph and alkalinity, but i live in a second floor on a two level building. The apartment heats up pretty drastically during the hotter days (ive seen temperature get to 85 on its own). Usually when i'm home the windows are open...
Forgot to update the info about the fish, although i don't think it will make much of a difference.
I currently have:
3 zebra Danios
5 guppies
1 mickey mouse platty
3 red spotted platties
4 baby angel fish
1 goldfish
2 julii corydoras
1 common pleco
I used the AqAdvisor a little while ago and...
I have the Seachem Ammonia Alert. I have tested it with window cleaner fluid that contains ammonia. Just putting the alert tab over (not touching and front face down towards the liquid) the cleaner makes the tab go to "toxic" in a matter of seconds. Tested it a few times and it works over and...
So I went on travel for a week and left the tank with an automatic feeder. I came back to find that my water parameters are the following:
Nitrate: 0-20 ppm
Nitrite: 0-0.5 ppm
Total Hardness: 75 ppm
Total Alkalinity: 0-40 ppm
pH: 6.2 or lower (last color in the chart)
Total Ammonia: 0-0.25 ppm...
Tank has been up and running for about 5-6 weeks now... So it's still cycling really, but I had gone past the big ammonia spikes part of the cycle... I still have some ammonia in there but no big spikes over time. I have been using Seachem Prime and more recently AmQuel Plus for ammonia...
So I showed this pictures to the people at Petco and they basically said that if its not green (like algae) it could be a bacterial bloom, cause fungus doesnt stick to the tank like that. However, I feel I kinda led them to that conclusion by telling them someone mentioned it in a forum. When...
its not fin-specific. Its spreading to other fish on different parts of their body. The Petco guys seem to think its fungal infection. They suggested I raise the temp 3-4 degrees and add salt, and then remove the carbon filtration and use the API Pimafix medicine.
I just hope it works...
Thanks! I dont know the reading for those as i take the water to Petco for testing. Ill take a sample today and do the water change.
Last water change was saturday... Maybe i cant afford to lower the water change frequency yet?
Thanks for the replies!
I had ich before and i treated it for 2 weeks with high temps (before the goldfish were added) and salt. But this looks different. Ich looked like tiny salt crystals, and this looks like bigger cotton-ish growth. Also the fish are not flashing, and are behaving pretty...
