What type of decorations do you have and what type of substrate are you using? Do you have live plants? If so, do you use co2? I'd check the tap water levels and if straight from the tap it seems neutral or higher than you have now, check the website of the water provider or call them and see...

I'd recomend a vinegar/water mix, it'll work just fine on water spots, maybe a 1:1 ratio? I know Python makes a tank safe glass cleaner that from the smell of it, is made with vineger, that's what I use just cuz it came free with my hose lol;)

I've tried Schultz's aquasoil, flourite and ADA aquasoil and have to say ADA is my favorite. It looks alot better than the other two IMO, and my crypts are thriving in it, my crypts did ok in the other two but now I get about 6 new leaves a week. I'm using Amazonia numero uno, and haven't any...

I've got to ask, what type of fish do you have in there already? I've never had an aquarium click on its own, I've had fish that do it, a few botia species (most notable being skunk botias) make a really rather annoying clicking noise that if you're not accustomed to can freak you out.

I'd go with either rainbowfish (they like to school though) or one (or two) gouramies, I like pearls and they'd look great with the blue/red theme IMO.

Well, there's diet. Mbuna can suffer something called Malawi bloat if they eat too much protein and I doubt you're going to find many south american cichlids that are happy to munch on spirulina and lettuce for the rest of their life. There's also the territorial part to it. African cichlids...

I think it really depends on personal taste. If you like dark sand, get dark sand (There's TMBS and other crushed quartz ideas), if you like white sand go with silica sand (can usually be found as sand blasting sand) and if you want a more mixed color, I like pool filter sand. If you're going...
