My 55 gallon tank is cycled but I'm having issues with nitrates. My tap water tests at about 10 ppm. I do the necessary water changes but at best I'm still back at 10 ppm. I don't have many fish yet (6 small hardy fish) but I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to get levels closer to 0...
My ammonia is almost at zero and my nitrites keep spiking. They have been spiking for about a week or so and I keep doing 50% water changes. Can anyone tell me an average time for the nitrites to go down? I'm trying to see the light at the end of this very damp tunnel.
I'm gonna buy prime. I have the API dechlorinator. Yea I'm doing a 50% this afternoon. I'm just confused as to why after doing a 25% change to get my ammonia down the nitrites spiked. They were very low before the water change.
This is also gonna sound silly but ur not pretreating the water that is going into the tank ur just adding the conditioner to the tank before adding the water right? I wouldn't know any other way to do a 50% change on a 55 gallon. Thank you for the advice by the way!
I'm 3 weeks into my cycle so I tested my water. Ph was 8.2, ammonia was .25, nitrites were at .50 ppm and nitrates were at 10-20ppm. I was advised on the forum to do a 50% water change to my 55 gallon tank. I did a 25% change yesterday because I wasn't prepared to do a 50%. Holy crap. I tested...
Hi! I'm Janet. I was recently given a 55 gallon aquarium after 10 years living a fishless life and I'm a tad giant bit out of my league. I'm almost 3 weeks into cycling my tank. I have 7 fish and they are hardy and small. My ph is 8.2, ammonia is at .25, nitrites are at .50 ppm and nitrates are...
I have a tall 55 gallon tank and I'm having trouble stocking it. I was told not to get bala sharks or catfish because they require more distance horizontally to swim. Is that true? if so, any suggestions for larger freshwater fish? Thank you!
