Hello A canister filter for a 5 gallon tank would be far to strong and make the water very turbulent, not even sure tank would cycle properly because of that, Hob would be better suited for the 5 gallon this will also help cycling. just my opinion. JCD

Thank you Gilpi I do vacuum gravel all the time when doing water changes, just never did the canister filter and l cannot get nitrates down, sol will lightly clean the filter using aquarium water to see if it helps, l never over feed as we'll. Thank you JCD
