    Earthquake Protection

Wait, does that mean Las Vegas becomes a beach town? I'm liking this idea more and more. Seriously, as long as you have a sturdy and stable stand, (absent any dwelling structural issues) you should be fine. P.S. Buy some desert before its gone!!!!!!!!!

    Quick Cure?

It is amazing the number of opinions out there on something as simple (simple does not mean easy) as a cure for ick. I personally have always had good success with the heat method, but to each his/her own. The most important part of any ick treatment seems to be in quick implementation and...

    What Are Your Fish Named?

Never let the 3 year old pick the names without help. You would not believe the number of fish they want to be called "FISHY", "LITTLE FISHY", or "BIG FISHY". lol....

    Confused with cycle

Did you add a little crushed fish flake to your tank while cycling? It helps with the nutrients needed for the bacteria to thrive.

    DIY CO2 help :)

Sounds like you didn't activate or "proof" the yeast when you made it. It will eventually get going on it's own if it is still good but can take some time as you noticed.

Penguin Filter Completely Stopped Working - Cycling Tank

I had a Marineland Penguin 350 on my 46 gallon tank, and had a problem with the pump as well as the wheel. It was returned to the store for a Marineland Emperor 400, and haven't had a problem with that filter since. ( 1+ year) I think the Penguin series is made as a cheaper price point for...

    Favorite Freshwater Community Tank Size

Thanks for all the responses to this thread. I find it very informative to not only see how the tank selections are spread out, but the reasoning for the size you picked. I know it has helped me, (and hopefully others), select a size that will fit the use. Please keep the recommendations coming.

    Drilled Tank Leak

Depending on your type of overflow, you may be able to cover it from the tank side with plastic to stop the water flow. The back pressure of the water in the tank would hold it in place when the inside of the overflow is drained. This may let you fix the leak while not draining a large amount...

My stand is split in the middle so here's my sump idea

Did you consider using a large diameter hose or pipe to join the tanks near the bottom half? Pumping from tank to tank could be problematic if the flow rates get out of sync. With a large connection between the two tanks gravity will do the work of keeping the levels of the two sumps even for you.

    Bio-Spira or bio-zyme products?

You will always have a very low (trace amount) level of ammonia in the tank from the waste products of the fish. In a healthy aquarium environment this level is so low it will not show up on a test kit. Any reading of ammonia on a test kit in an aquarium requires immediate action to safeguard...

    Ice cap 660-009 ballast

There are various reasons. The voltage drop in a normal electric cord, feeding the circuit breakers from the output side, ability to overload a line because of the reverse flow, etc. When you back feed the house from a generator, do you shut off the main house supply breaker?
