How long of a winter do you have and does your pond ice over ?

Went rock hounding last Friday and got 50 lbs of iowa geodes for $15. that I'm going to crack and put in a couple of my tanks

I have a 5 inch pleco with a 7 inch cichlid that we call killer Bill a cross between somthing nasty and and just plain mean , he even takes a bite out of my finger's if my ands are in the water, but my pleco holds his own in a 55 gal tank . :D

When setting up for plants and the fertilizing the what effects will this have on the fish ? we started out with some plant bulbs a couple of years ago and then we lost most of our fish , not sure if there was some sort of slow release fertilizer in with the bulbs .

We started three years ago with a couple of ten gal tank to keep the pond fish in over the winter , 1st year was ok then the next year the koa had gotten larger then we got a 55 gal tank so when spring came around , the fish went out to the pound and we started to stock the tanks with oscars...

I picked up a stock tank heater for my pond at at farm / home store, I went with the submersible in stead of a floater , also set it on thin stone so it would not come in contact with the liner.

1st year that we had our pound I ran a heater in it but pulled it out to soon april then we got a bad cold spell and we lost all the fish. Last winter we brought all the fish in side and set up three tanks , This winter I'm going back to the heater and will try to run the pump as long as I can.

The filter system is two wisper 60's and one aqua-tec power head on the under gravel filter.I know that the oscars are real messy eaters and we feed them cichlid floating sticks, and algae disc for the pleco.

We set up a 90 gal tank about 9 weeks ago , the water has never cleared and is still cloudy , we have two oscars , a parrot cichld , jack dimpsy , two pleco , a balo shark and two tank busters in it can any one help ???
