Where to find DIY Aquarium parts?

Where is the best place to buy parts? In particular, I'm looking for plastic molding (sp?) that goes around the top of a glass tank. Thanks

    anyone want duckweed?

By the way, most aquarium stores that I know sell duckweed for pennies. I think I paid 59c for a 1/2 cup worth.

    Correct filter for a 55g

What is the correct size filter for a 55g? It's cycling now & will be a cichlid tank. I'm using a new Emperor 400 gph (biowheel) filter. To be honest, I've not been able to id the cichlids yet. I inherited both of them. One is about 2" long with a mostly orange-red lower body, black stripe...

    Question On Water Testing Kits

Does anyone know of an ammonia test kit with more gradients? Most have like 5 or 6 colors to choose from. It would be nice to have a bit more than that.

    Will cheese hurt fish?

Do you know if they prefer Gouda or Swiss? Mine are having some friends over so it would be nice to know what kind of cheese to serve. :)

    Cycling question

When cycling a new aquarium, how often should water be changed? I know many advocate fishless cycling but I keep feeder goldfish on hand for my Gar so I used some of those to cycle a 55 g. The bacteria bloom just started yesterday so I don't know if I should change water or wait for the bloom...

Q for those with Python siphoning system or similar...

Yes. The Python does a wonderful job of draining the tank. When you buy it, buy the brass faucet adapter. It's much better than the plastic one that comes with the tank and tends to wear out quickly.

    Cichlid Identity

I have a cichlid given to me that I haven't been able to ID. It is solid black with 6 grey strips that go about 2/3 way down from dorsal. The coloring could be off because I 'm struggling to get the water correct. I've looked all over and can't find anything like it.

Do you go fishing for sport?

Hassle? "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office." I've sat on a lake for 12 hours and never caught a thing... still a damn good day.

Do you go fishing for sport?

I'm usually catch & release though I love fresh fish for dinner. My catch & release is especially gentle on the fish since they are usually released before I get them to the boat.

Newbie with inherited aquariums needs help

    * Tank 1 is down to ammonia level of 1. I bought a liquid test kit so I can get a better reading. It's cloudier today than it's been in 2 days but hopefully that's good bacteria. * I'm going to be moving my cichlids into a 55 gallon. It used to house my uromastyx lizard so i need to clean...

Newbie with inherited aquariums needs help

Here are this morning's readings... I'm using test strips so their approximate. Tank 1 listed 1st is the Af. Cichlid tank (with a Gar & 2 catfish). It's been the biggest problem. Tank 2 contains serpae tetra including 6 babies & a blue crayfish. Ammon .5-3 / 0-.25 Nitrate 40 / 80...

    Plz help identify fish... barb?

Red phantoms are on the link in my previous post but you are correct. They are serpae! Thanks. The phantom looks very close but the body shape wasn't right. The shape & markings of the serpae are on the mark, thanks!
