    Everything is dying

No rotten egg smell. My PH is around 7.1. Stock before incident: - 5 cories, 3 large angelfish, two small angelfish, two rams, and a pleco Stock after incident: - 2 cories, two small angelfish, one ram I have no idea what caused this. Levels are fine, temperature is fine, I just don't know.

    Everything is dying

Well, the weather here is kind of indecisive. Some days it's hotter, and the tank is a degree higher, rarely two degrees. Typically my tank is 81-82 degrees, right now it is 80. I highly doubt this is the cause of their deaths, as this has been happening since it started to heat up. These fish...

    Everything is dying

Well, they cleared our water as safe. We ran the first couple dozen gallons out of our faucet, as well as out of our refrigerator.

    Everything is dying

Hi all. I have a 55g tank that has been up for around 20 months. Today when I woke up, one of my angelfish was dead, along with a cory catfish. I disposed of them and did a mid-week cleaning and water change. Ammonia and nitrate levels are okay. Temperature is nigh on the high side, but it's...

    Two quick questions

By "ac 70s" they meant two AquaClear 70s. I don't think that's necessary, not since you already have the penguins. Not to mention the penguin filters have biowheels which increase filtration performance significantly. I leave my recommendation of the filters you currently have and maybe a sponge...

    Two quick questions

Yes, GPH is additive. Depending on what you keep, it could be enough. Cichlids would need around 600 GPH for your tank, but a normal stocking level of standard tropical fish would work. Penguin filters are significantly more powerful than people try to suggest, though, I would suggest a sponge...

    Planted tank myth?

    Good to know. Thanks.

    Planted tank myth?

As far as I can tell, the only reason for the pads is to contain the carbon. I don't believe there is any other purpose. I may be mistaken. To everyone else: Thanks for the input.

    ID on Algae Eater/Catfish/Suckerfish

It's a little hard to tell by the pictures, but it appears to be a loach of some kind. Your judgement may be better. This link shows some of the common types of loaches. See if it's not one of those.

    Planted tank myth?

I've heard that removing carbon pads from filters can help plant growth because the pads remove the nutrients from the water. Has anyone experimented with this or have any experience with it? Thanks.

Which fish do you enjoy watching the most?

I used to love watching my cories, but their personality disintegrated. I rarely see my pleco either. My angels are the only active fish in my tank, though, hopefully the new rams will speak up soon and come out.

    Christmas additions!

I went out to my LFS today and got a pair of koi angelfish and a pair of german blue rams for my 55g. I knew rams like plants, and went home without getting some because I didn't bring enough money (i'm taking all my money next trip ) . I've got some java moss throughout my tank, but I know...

    First Angel(Fish) spawn!

This is the first spawn I've ever had in any of my tanks. It is a community tank with 6 small cories, 3 angelfish, and a 5-6" common plecostomus. I've been doing a bit of research and reading, but there is nothing better than information on the exact predicament. So, I've got some questions that...

    Not enough algae for pleco

They also love to chew on driftwood if you don't already have some in your tank. I'm not sure if it's really considered a food source, but, you know.
