I've been doing my research and I think a 3g tank will be too much for me as a first reef tank, not only that but I would like a couple of fish as well.

First off I'm sorry not trying to start an arguement, you are right I'm overstocked I got my maths completely wrong.
I've only been keeping fresh water fish for a month so please forgive my ignorance, I've been around tropical fish since birth though
Well obviously I do have enough room for 1 if there is 2 in the tank.
What you don't seem to understand is surface area, it's all well and good saying that I need 20g for the first fish and then another 10g for every new fish added. You're not going to put a single fish in a drain pipe filled...
I saw a 3 gallon tank at a local bargain shop, it was cheap enough but will it be any good for nano reef?
I've never kept reef fish before and I though this would be a good start, or is it too small to be managable?
