And it's FINALLY taking off! My 1st FOWLR!!! ;)

Wow, just read your last post. they sold you used water? That is definitely no bueno. That water is the water you want to REMOVE from your tank with regular water changes. It is probably high in nitrates and low in alk/calcium. Even that water is not cycled, the beneficial bacteria is on...

And it's FINALLY taking off! My 1st FOWLR!!! ;)

Water can not be cycled. If the fish store is telling you otherwise, they are only trying to "sell" items to you. The cycle comes.from the bacteria that forms in the rocks. I also agree that those rocks look really dense and not very beneficial. I would replace all that rock with about 20...

    Starting New Tank today

Agree with Carey. Check the phosphates in your tap water. The more phosphates you have, the more algae problems you will get in the future. a FOWLR system is easier than reef for sure, but honestly, in the long run, good quality water will be your best defense against a whole lot of problems...

    new tank algae?

Oh, just to note....these tufts are mainly on the glass and overflow box, and starting to pop up on the sand, close to the glass, but none on the rocks at all.

    new tank algae?

Hey all. My 90g has recently finished cycling and I have the normal diatoms, but I am also seeing some tufts of alage, looks like maybe brown hair alage? I used only brs reefsaver dry rock, and have slowly added a few pieces of my current live rock while moving livestock over. I have never...

i want to start a nano tank

I personally really like the colbalt neotherm heaters, They are a little more spendy than other heaters, but are worth the price. Depending on the fish you plan to keep, a lid is a good idea. a lot of smaller sw fish are jumpers. A good option is to make a lid out of egg crate (find it in the...

i want to start a nano tank

Also, I would recommend about half that amount of sand. With a deeper sand bed, you run the risk of anerobic gas pockets building up. You could go with a true deep sand bed, but really, in a tank this small, you are probably better to go with a shallow sand bed and do regular vacuming.

i want to start a nano tank

The ac 110 will be plenty for a 20 gallon tank. also, you will only need 1 wp10. I ran 1 in my 38 gallon cube (apx 32 gallon display) for a while and it was plenty of flow. I think 2 might be overkill in a tank that size, especially if you are just going FOWLR.

    SPS lighting question

I would suggest picking up a cheap timer from somewhere like Walmart and put the light on a timer. You can get one for a few bucks and it will make your life a whole lot easier. :-)

    Rock Work? Nuvo 40 Fusion

That rockwork is incredible! Exactly what I had wanted to do for my 90 gallon, but sadly, I gave up and just stacked a bunch of rocks :-P Wanna come build me a sweet scape? Lol

    Something from live rock

Looks like a stomatella. I have them, and I have seen mine do that before. from what I gather, they are spitting eggs.
