So I had set up a 1.5 gallon holding tank about a month ago to hold 1-2 guppies for a few days. All it had in it was a plastic rock formation and an unused lime wood air diffuser for bubbles. The guppies were taken out and put elsewhere and I never ended up taking down this holding tank. Since...
I've had great readings using Tetra Easy Strips 6-in-1 test strips. I've used the API test strips and found they weren't very accurate, so I stick with Tetra's. The KH and PH are iffy on the Tetra strips, but they give you an idea of what's going on so you can determine if it's worth doing a...
I suppose, if you think so! The green spot algae spots I've seen in my tanks are bigger than those dots and is found on the glass, but perhaps it behaves differently on plants. I will just have to treat it like it is and see what happens!
These are the best pics I can get of what I'm dealing with. Ignore the whitish protrusion from her anus, it's prolapsed intestine. It's been like that since she was a baby and she has been happy as a clam. But take note of the white area on her side and at the base of her tail. Also the fin rot...
I'm not sure what kind of algae this is that grows on my plants so I'm not sure how to deal with it. I'd describe it as a "black dust algae", but I didn't see anything online about something like that, just green dust algae. The leaves with the algae also start disintegrating or being pulled...
So by opening the lid, keeping off the lights, and blocking sunlight, the temperature of tank#1 was lowered by 4 degrees to 79'F. Tank#2 is lower as well, but only to 80'F.
The affected fish that have survived so far in Tank#1 don't seem to be clamping anymore and keeping still. They are...
My heaters are off right now, it's just so hot in Texas now that they stay around 82 all day. I will try keeping lights off, opening the hood, and blocking off any sunlight that might come in through windows. Otherwise, do you have any ideas on how can I lower temps? Add an ice pack?
So basically you removed all the fish that didn't appear normal (clamping or worse) and did the brackish water changes to the tank. Did you do the changes to the removed fish as well? How much salt do you add for that? Aquarium or marine salt? And after you removed the affected fish, no more got...

Hi, I'm having troubles with an illness that started in one of my tanks, but has now spread to another (I'm assuming it did). I believe I may have started this whole mess when I was trying to treat for something else. Let me give you my set-ups and then I'll tell you a story.
Tank #1:
