    Drought

It is dire, like I said it's serious.. We can see it when we look at the areas where there used to be bodies of water and now it's either dry or very very low. But in terms of small scale daily life, the water is still coming out of the faucets so it can be easy to forget momentarily. Sent...

    Drought

I live about an hour away from San Francisco. Though the drought is serious, we really don't "feel" the effects of it. It's more of a conscious effort to try to conserve but there are no mandated rules to follow.. At least not in my area. Now I do have a relatively small tank, 3 gallon which I...

    Betta tank?

They are tropical fish and thrive at temperatures between 78-83F. They are less active when in water that is not warm enough. While Bettas may survive and seem well in certain conditions, it is different from them thriving. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Betta tank?

I have a 3 gallon marineland crescent tank for my Betta and he loves it but I do plan on upgrading to a 5 gallon for him eventually. Bettas like a lot of plants (which is great that you are planning on a planted tank) but they are also pretty active so need swimming space.. A 2 gallon would be...

    Happy Betta :)

Just wanted to give an update if anyone is interested or remembers me posting about Fishy a few weeks ago. He had the beginnings of fin rot when I posted and it got worse quickly but with extra care and attention I'm proud to say that he is doing so well now! I see a little fin regrowth and he...

    Help! Betta scratches against things

I noticed it from looking at my first photos of him and to the more recent ones and saw that the ends looked different. He's also slightly changing color, the whites of his fins are turning blue Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Help: Betta rubs against stuff

Funny, pretty much same here. I've been thinking about getting a Betta but since my toddler loves the fish at his daycare, it was the last push to finally get one. I'm already planning to upgrade fishy's tank to a 5gal in a few months Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Help: Betta rubs against stuff

Thanks! And I know I had a Betta when I was younger (8-9) and of course my mom was the main caretaker of the tank and didn't know all of the proper care, just put plain tap and changed the tank once a month! That one lived for 2 years which was amazing considering what I know of fish care now...

    Help: Betta rubs against stuff

Oh I just thought the water needs to sit for 24 hours to get rid of all the harmful chemicals.. I will do it as soon as I get home! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Help: Betta rubs against stuff

I just set out a bucket of new tap that is being treated so I can change his water tomorrow, and I heard that melafix is not good for Bettas because of the labyrinth organ? Or is that something else? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Help: Betta rubs against stuff

The nitrites always show no color (0) and the nitrates would be just a tiny bit above 0, ph 7.0 and I forget the gh and kh but I know they were in range according to the directions. And I have an ammonia "constant reader" that suction cups inside the tank but I don't think it works because I...

    Help: Betta rubs against stuff

I have the all in one test strips but will be purchasing a liquid test kit soon since I have been advised they aren't very accurate. And he refuses pellets, which is what I tried to start him with... I think he was fed flakes at the petstore I bought him at. And will do on the more frequent...

    Help! Betta scratches against things

Ok that makes sense. And I don't touch the filter, I just unplug it during the water changes. I have the tetra whisper micro filter that came with the aquarium on the lowest flow and I added a small aquarium sponge to the intake area to try to slow the flow a little more (it was moving Fishy...

    Help! Betta scratches against things

Oh another thought, if I'm not supposed to vacuum the gravel for awhile, how would I clean out the fish poop that goes to the bottom? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice
