I've got a 2.5 gallon Fluval tank, and for some reason I'm just not happy with the aquascape. I've got a slight problem with ramshorn snails, working on that now. Should be cleared up in 1-2 weeks. Has Anubias barteri, and nana, Java Ferns, and Java Moss in it. Trying to add a picture now.

What I've done in the past is net them out, drip acclimate in a 5 gallon bucket, check water perimeters from both tanks, turn the light off on the new tank, and add them to it slowly, then turn the light back on in an hour or two. Somewhat minimizes stress. I'm sure there are some other ways...

Absolutely, it will. In fact, it will actually grow inside the filter, but it doesn't cause too much of a fuss. Easy to remove. Hope you get what you want for Christmas. I'm shooting for a new pair of boots, and maybe a Chris Reeve Sebenza. Haha. Regardless, it could take quite some time...
