Hi guys! I'm relatively new to fish keeping but I think I have a pretty good understanding of the basics. I've had my two oranda goldfish for about 4 months now. They are in a 60 gallon tank that I fishless cycled. My smaller fish gets red spots on him sometimes that usually go away in a day or...
Here are my goldies I've had about a month now. One red and white oranda and I'm not sure about the white one...He was being sold in a tank with other orandas but he doesn't look like one to me. He has a small red spot on his head but it's off center and smaller than the traditional red cap. Any...
I had started the first cycle attempt with carbon not knowing that it wasn't good so I had to take it out too. Knew better the second time around. I also emailed the company the I purchased my aquarium decorations from and told them they smelled strongly and may have been causing my tank to not...
Well that should give you plenty of time to get your tank cleaned out!
I haven't tested yet this morning but I think my tank is finally on the right track. I'll be afraid to dose ammo up again though after what happened to you! Anyway, keep us posted Ill be curious to how your tank does with...
I definitely think starting fresh with new filter will help!
I tested again this morning and my ammonia dropped from 3 to 2 and..... I definitely have nitrites!!! 0.5ppm!!! Doing happy dance:)
Sounds good. I dosed up to around 3ppm and haven't seen much of a drop yet. It's kind of hard for me to see differences with the darker shades of green. It's not quite as dark as 4 but looks darker than 2. If the tank really is starting to show nitrites (and not just my wishful thinking) it...
I hadn't even considered that your filter might have been the problem. You did see nitrites early on so maybe the filter stopped working after that? I've heard excellent things about the Fluval filters. As for emptying my tank, I used a hose and had it as close to the sand as possible and...
Dechlorinated water with Prime and then dosed pure ammonia up to around 3 ppm. Temp set at 84, bubble wand for aeration. Now just waiting for ammonia to convert to nitrite...
Today's nitrite looks different! Not sure if it is actually progress yet but I posted new thread to get opinions. Tap is on the left, tank on the right.
Okay so after 6 weeks of fishless cycling with no results, I completely tore down my tank and started again with clean media and new substrate. I'm now on day 6 of this new cycle. Today my nitrite test looked slightly different...definitely not purple by any means but it didn't have that...
Oh that sucks! I'd probably quit too if all my equipment broke down! I started my tank over from scratch and am back in the waiting stage. No ammo drop yet but it's only day 6. Haven't tested yet today.
