Thanks Terry & Madame-X,
I'll keep the lights off as an immediate remedy. The ice 'float bag' is a good idea as well as the fans, i'll keep both in mind.
U guy's have just come out of a hot summer, what did you do to keep ur tanks temp stable?
I keep mine @ 26 deg cel with the heater @ 22 deg cel. Today the tank reached 30 deg b4 I noticed and now I need to know the best method of keeping it at 26 deg cel, with the light on for 8-10hrs a day in...
Research as much as you can. Get a good book on aquariums (tropical or marine etc). There are a lot of excellent posts here about starting up a new tank....to cycle it then add fish and maintain a healthy environment for them. You need to read how to clean your tank to prevent any spread of...
Hey SoCal....don't forget to add a large school of cardinal tetras too. I think they're brighter than the neon and have the red stripe all the way along the body. An awesome sight at night with the tank light on and the room lights off :D Also add some driftwood to get some tannin in the water...
I'm not 100% sure of what fish I would add but with a tank that size I would go for a number of schooling fish. I think that would be awesome to see them at their best, a cloud of colour swimming around. Maybe the set up could be like a cross-section of a river with large pcs of driftwood, river...
Quick question....at what point do you add water treatment chemicals? I don't have the need for a python now (using bottled water for w/c on sml tank) but eventually look to have a 55gal tank and like the ease of the python.
Hey Catalina that's great news, congrats
Alli, good to hear the 55gal is coming along. Can you post some photos? I am looking at a larger tank myself :P
My fav photographer. B&W photography is such an intense representation of the medium, you see the subject for what it is without colours distracting you. Such a raw way to record life :P
Should have read "have a heap of chooks"
Chooks are chickens. I would love a lot of chickens running around freely. A couple of hens, a rooster and little chicks. I once had a hen for 5years and every egg she laid was a double yolker (2 yolks in 1 egg). They were the best tasting eggs too :D...

I am not sure but from your description I think it could be a corydoras and an albino type. Check this link http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/cory-aen.htm
You could confirm with your lfs if they sold these types and then search on about.com (their aquarium stuff is pretty good)
