    Quietest filter for a 10g?

I just replaced my Penguin Bio Wheel with an Aquaclear 30. It is so much quieter than the Penguin. Also has much better flow.

    Upgrading filter

I think I got it. I did a 25% water change and rinsed the new filter with the old tank water. I rinsed the three filter medias in the old water. I placed the sponge, then the ammonia remover bag, then the floss that I cut out of the old cartridge, then the BioMax ceramic bag. I managed to...

    Upgrading filter

I am upgrading my filter. My 10 gallon tank came with a Mainland Penguin filter with bio wheel that only filters 75 gph. I am upgrading to an Aquaclear 30 that does 150 gph. I currently have two comet goldfish that I need to keep alive until spring so I can transfer them to a friends pond...

    ammonia poisoning?

I have a friend that has a pond. I think I will wait until spring to transfer them. I am afraid the water may be too cold to do it right now. In the meantime, I bought an Aquaclear 30 for the 10 gallon tank and got the ammonia remover filter. I'll try that with the tank and see if it helps...

    ammonia poisoning?

I did a 50% water change two days in a row, and I now have the ammonia down to .25ppm. The water is crystal clear, and I vacuumed the gravel pretty well. I poured some more Tetra SafeStart Plus in after the water changes. I am getting nitrates, but no nitrites. It does not appear that the...

    ammonia poisoning?

Not open sores....more like blood under the surface. If I had to describe it, it looks like their lateral line is filling with blood. They otherwise look fine and act fine.

    ammonia poisoning?

Situation: 2 small comet goldfish (daughter won at fair). 10gallon tank. Been trying to cycle tank for 5 weeks. Showing 1ppm ammonia, 0 nitrites, 5ppm nitrates using API Test Kit. Using Stress Coat during water changes, was using Stress Zyme, and just recently used Tetra SafeStart Plus (that...

    Cycling question

Thank you all. I will back off of the feeding to once a day and keep testing ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates daily. I'll keep up the every other day 25% water changes to keep ammonia down. My wife thinks I am nuts for all the work I am putting in to keeping these little guys alive, but my...

    Cycling question

Thanks for the reply! I feel like I am going the right direction and doing the water changes to keep ammonia down. How often should I be feeding the goldfish? Of course the food says 2-3 times daily. I have both flakes and floating pellets. I have been doing once in the morning and once in...

    Cycling question

My daughter won two goldfish at the state fair. I went out and got a standard Mainland 10g kit. I didn't have the opportunity to do a fishes cycle, so I set the tank up and had to get the fish in it within a few hours. I have been using API Stress Coat to remove the chlorine, and API Stress...
