    angelfish compatibility

I have 1 corie and 4 angels; two of the angels keep mating (5th time, most recently). Everyone gets along but as Oscarr19 pointed out, when they do mate, they're aggressive to all their other tank mates, not just the corie.

    Angel fish eggs and PWC

My two angel fish have spawned for the third time. The first two times, the eggs were on the H2O in-take tube; far enough down the tube, so there was no danger of having the eggs exposed to air when doing a PWC. However, with this third spawning, the eggs are on the out-take tube; if I do a...

    Snails per gallon.

I agree with AquaOne.....snails are good for keeping glass clean but having experienced an infestation, I'd recommend you be on top of their own breeding.....it can get nasty! Luanne

How often do you change your ceramic media?

In my Fluval 205, I have the ceramic rings, 4 sponges and I use filter floss. Besides doing PWC's at least once per week, I also rinse the filter media every 6 to 8 weeks, using the tank water. Following this regimen, my tank water is crystal clear and I've had few fish problems. I expect I...

    water changes

Hi, Missie. I have a 25 gal tank and do PWC twice a week (each change, I remove about 6 gal). I also vacuum the gravel during these changes; I do one half of the substrate on one day, then do the other half on the next water change. From an early post I wrote, I said I felt routine was very...

    3 small snails have appeared...?

I agree with Pete. When I set up my tank in September 09, after a couple of months, I thought it would be nice to get real plants. Around November, I noticed the tiniest of snails on the glass. Well, this one snail turned into many, within a couple of months. Over the start of 2010, I posted...

    Your Water Changing Procedure

For me, simplest was best and most important, routine. I use a gravel vac and two 16 L pails. Twice a week (normally), I change the water, filling both pails to about 14 L. Each water change, I vacuum one half of the gravel, taking turns on each half of the tank. As my tank gets natural...

    Angel fish and septicemia

It appears my two Angel fish have been struck with hemorraghic septicemia (pectoral fins, at their body, are blood red....red streaks along their spine...the larger Angel fish also seems to have it behind its mouth). Either I introduced the bacterial infection with two new smaller angel fish...

Fresh water tanks in a chloramine water district

I agree with dkpate; Seachem Prime and regular PWC's are the way to go. Luanne

    Am I Incompetent?

I agree with Durvish; I do pwc's twice a week. During each change, I vacuum one half of the tank and the other half during the other pwc. This seems to not disturb the established bacteria.

How did the snails get in my tank?

I started my tank in September 09, got real plants in November 09 and thought it was cute to see a baby snail, shortly thereafter. A year and some months later, even after giving away three major batches of them thru Kijiji and doing a complete water and substrate change (very unhappy fish...

    Help! Out of Ideas

Welcome to AA! Just to add to all of the good advice; frequent partial water changes, along with gravel vacuuming and not over-feeding will help you get to clear water. I also agree with BigJim and Daileene; Seachem Prime is the way to go...no salt and also no carbon....filter floss works...

    ich and salt and angels

I wonder if that's too much salt? I'm thinking the high temp will help, as will frequent PWC. Luanne

    Cloudy tank

In my own experience, my tank has gone cloudy when I've done too many "drastic" changes...i.e. changed (outright) any of the media in the filter, changed (outright) the substrate, removed and cleaned (using tap water!) the tank decorations (silk plants, rocks, etc.), to name a few. I've...

    Cloudy Water

I've had my share of cloudy (milky) water; success only came when I realized I placed the ceramic rings in the wrong basket. Once I corrected this, my tank has been very clear. (if you can, see my response to Mark Hewitt's query about filter media) Luanne
