i had substrate in my 29 gallon cichlid tank, it was more trouble than what its worth...i know cichlids are diggers but they seemed to have adjusted fine to it
finally got a pic of my tank...the picture sucks because i just got a new digital camera and am still playing around with all the settings...i'd like to add some more rocks but i have to wait for the snow at my moms house to melt first, as all my rocks are out of her backyard
does anyone use or reccomend the use of a night light for your tank when the big light is turned off...like overnight when everyone is sleeping...because you figure, even in the wild, the moon casts some light into the water
today i purchased a livingstoni nimbochromis cichlid from my lfs...he's a big boy, around 6 inches...i'm doing a water change and rearranging all my rocks to keep any arguements to a minimum...but so far so good...no problems :D
depending on how big your tank is, could you block part of it off with netting or screen so that the feeder fish are constantly in the tank with your oscar...that way you are constantly introducing fish from one tank into another...just a thought
i'm doing a partial water change every 10 to 14 days...is this too often? my water begins to cloud about 7 to 10 days after i do the change...all my water levels are fine...i think i'm going to get a second aqua clear 110 power filter, as my fish are pretty messy :)
well...after fighting with really cloudy and green water i deciced to do a full water change...i also moved the tank away from a window...i think the natural light was contributing to the problems...i've been thru a bacterial bloom before with my other tank and it was never this bad, plus...
i'm starting a water change right now...i might move the tank too...i think it was a little too close to a window...and the indirect natural light may have effected the cloudiness too
