    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

Guys, I think that I'll wait to be in the new house to buy a big tank and might even wait a bit more to go with a SW reef since that's my ultimate goal. I'd skip the 75 gallon FW tank. I'd buy a small one in the mean time. That way, my son could enjoy looking at fishes right away, it would be...

What would you do with this 50,000 gal monster home tank??

He mentions somewhere that it has to be accessible from his wheelchair... maybe that fish tank is now his life, some kind of dream coming through even though he doesn't have the mega $$$ and had to cut some corners as you saw.

    Tank sizes...

Here's an update... http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=75427&start=24 Basically, it looks like I'll have to wait before I move before getting it because moving it messes up the bio a lot more than I thought. I thought that moving a tank was putting fishes in a bucket with water...

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

Wow. I never thought that moving a tank was so risky. I guess that I'll wait in that case. The new house is custom built and we choose everything in it so we know what fits and what would look nice. :) Are books that useful? Can't we find everything on this forum? I'm sure that...

    Equipment: which path to take

Well, we saw a nice 75 gallon... the sedona red oak stand is super nice as well so my wife has decided that she wants that... she knows we'll buy a bigger one later otherwise.

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

Quick update for you guys. My wife and I stopped by Big Al's to see the small fish tanks. As you might suspect, we're now interested by a 75 gallon tank. She knows that we'll want a bigger one if we buy a small one and the sedona red oak stand / canopy for the 75 gallon tank is super nice...

    Tank sizes...

My wife and I fear that we'll have to upgrade if we buy a small one so buying a big one from the start seems like the way to go. As she always says, you might as well buy the good stuff from the start! :P

    Tank sizes...

Thanks for the feedback. I stopped by Big Al's today and saw a nice 75 gallon tank with a super nice stand (which is wife approved! she wants a nice one because it will be in the living room). The tank is 48x18x20... That would be even better than the 55 gallon because it's wider right...

    Equipment: which path to take

I'm thinking of buying a fishtank (as mentionned in another thread) and am considering multiple options... size unknown for now but thinking that ~50 - 65 gallons would be a good start. Since I have no experience and am not too sure of what I want, what would be the best approach in terms of...

    Tank sizes...

I did a bunch of searches on the forum but haven't been able to find what I'm looking for... "height" and "depth" are popular words! I'm wondering what's better in terms of tank sizes, ie: length, depth, width for different setups: - freshwater - freshwater with plants - salt water...

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

Thanks a lot for all the help folks. I'm in Canada so a bunch of the kits that you guys mentionned might not be available. I'll visit my LFS this week-end to see what they have. I'm not really in a hurry to buy so I'll still do lots of reading before I buy (yeah right. watch me come back...

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

Don't worry! I'd never do that to them! I just wanted to be sure of what he meant. I'll go take a look at walmart and big Al, the two are near my house. It looks like a 10 gallon would be a great start. I'll also do lots of reading before buying.

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

What size would you recommend? Are you talking about a simple fishbowl or a tank with filter and all the equipment but just smaller (~10 gallon?)

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

Hmmm.... we were thinking of putting it in the living room. That way we could see it more often than if it was hidden in a room. It's not like a 200 pounds tank will fall easily right? We've never been too worried about our son, at ~8 months old he was climbing up and down...

    Aquarium + toddler = ok?

NOTE: This original post isn't too pertinant anymore... see page 2 of the thread instead. :) ----------- Hi! I have an 18 months old boy who likes dogs, cats and every pet there is at the pet store. He's also facinated by the fishtanks over there. Since there's no way we'd ever own a dog or...
