I have so many of those things in my tank. I always wandered what it was but knew they weren't bad or anything so I let them grow and multiply. They look cool to me.
Moss balls are AWESOME! They help out so much in your tank especially if you have an algae problem. Algae grows from your nitrates and moss balls help lower nitrates which starves the algae and basically stops it from growing! Plus they will live forever. They grow and once they get big enough...
No I don't think so but I could be wrong. And my snails are fine they always have been and I've had them for months. I make sure everyone in my tank is fed properly.
I remember when I first started my tank I had the same problem. I fixed it by adding a sand sifting starfish and a ton of nassarius snails. The algae went away a week after on its own.
If your doing cichlids then I definitely say to go with sand. It's more beneficial for your tank and you have more surface area so that will make it much easier to clean than gravel.
My wrasse is doing so perfect! He is so happy swimming around in and out of rock! And my tang and clown seem to not even bother him anymore. I'm so happy I got him!
I've been watching him since I got him and he seems to be doing just fine. My clown is the mean one in my tank but I have seem him actually physically attack him just kinda chase him out of the way. My clown is the king in my tank.
