    Diatom issues

Chemipure elite is awesome. It worked on my tank. My parameters stay perfect. I have trouble trying to get any algae to grow. Trying to get coralline algae and haven't seen any yet but my tank is about 2.5 months old. I'm also using purigen with my chemipure elite. Let us know if you try it what...

    Understanding diatoms

Great! I should be fine I think since you have a 30 gal. I can always add a little later if needed. I only have tiny amounts of a pretty bright green algae and diatoms. My PO4 is .02ppm and NO3 is .5ppm so my algae is under control for now. I guess I don't need to do a water change yet unless my...

    Understanding diatoms

Great! I ordered my cleanup crew yesterday. Getting 6 snails ( no turbos), and 3 hermits. Hope I'm not starting too many in there.

    Understanding diatoms

Will a cleanup crew benefit from them or get harmed?

    Understanding diatoms

My tank is about 6 weeks old. My nitrates are 0, sg is 1.025, pH is about 8.0 - 8.1 and been using a buffer but wonder if I should stop, one fish in my current 29 gal FOWLR. I want coral someday after everything gets established. I have diatoms growing on the glass, sand, and rock. I have had my...

    New Biocube 29 filtration mods

I have the same aquarium. I went to mediabaskets.com. They show you what to get, how it works, and how to make the modification. Check it out. I like mine.

After cycling, what to do with the lights and getting started

Thanks! I just figured on adding a few snails or maybe one fish. I'm in no hurry. Hurrying leads to disaster. Going to pick up fish very slowly since I only go to the city when we need to go to SAMs. You were very helpful, thanks.

After cycling, what to do with the lights and getting started

Do fish and inverts have to have the lights on? I do have windows in this room but I keep the blinds closed. I know about the corals and then fresh water fish but you don't see much on the net about lighting with just inverts or fish. Maybe just about the lights making it seem like the ocean...

After cycling, what to do with the lights and getting started

This weekend at the soonest. Was hoping to have my nitrates lower first. We have a fish place that does aquariums for people but isn't really a store. It's about 45 min. away. All the good stuff is 2 1/2 hours away in El Paso, TX. Is it a problem to wait so long?

After cycling, what to do with the lights and getting started

I have a 29 gal biocube saltwater tank. It finished cycling so I removed the shrimp, did a water change, and removed an inch of sand, as I had too much. My nitrates went from 5ppm to 15ppm. I guess because I disturbed things?? Anyway, a LFS told me to leave my actinic lights on for 8 hrs while...

    General hardness

I just looked at my test kit. It says 60 ppm or less for tetras. We do every other water change with R.O. Water to help with the metals and hardness. Basically half of our well water and half r.o.
