They are diatoms, which actually isn't a type of algae. They grow in newly cycled tanks and will likely go away on their own. It might just take a while. I have also read that they can be caused by silica in tap water, zeolite (which was in some of my filter media) and high presence of...
The diatoms seem to avoid the pool filter sand I have. It pretty much covers everything else. The sand actually looks fine lol. The diatoms are mainly on the glass and decor in the tank. I guess at this point it will be a waiting game.
Agreed. The parameters are ok now, but may not have been a few days ago. Adding that many fish at once likely overloaded the tank and caused a significant amount of stress and even possible ammonia poisoning. I had a 10 gallon years ago and put, at a max, 5 tetras and a snail. Even then, it...
I do find it odd that the serpaes are dying off quickly but not the cories. I don't want to give bad information on treatment for something I can't diagnose. If it is possible that the serpaes are sick, you should probably separate them from the cories so they don't get sick also. You could...
Hmm I'm wondering if maybe the fish you bought had something. Did you notice anything out of the ordinary on the dead serpaes? I had an issue with some tetras I bought a few months ago. The store that sold them to me sold me fish with mouthrot. Hopefully someone else can offer some other advice.
Did you dechlorinate the water before adding the fish? Also that seems like a lot of fish for a 10 gallon. I would suggest getting a test kit to check the quality of the water. I recommend the API freshwater master test kit. You can buy it at most pet stores or order it on amazon. It is...
I don't know if this is the right section for this topic, but didn't know where else to put it. I have a 75 gallon tank with an aquaclear 110 (w/sponge, zeo-carb and biomax) and an eheim 2217 (mech, course foam pad, substrat pro bio media, polishing pad and carbon pad). The tank has pool filter...
I name all of my fish.
Red Spotted Gold Severum - Calvin
Blue Acara - Henry
2 Black Widow Tetras - Van Helsing and Victor Frankenstein
White Skirt Tetra - Charles Darwin
Serpae Tetra - Dr. Jekyll (had another names Mr. Hyde but he passed away)
I am still looking for names for my 4 Bolivian rams...
So I got some Imagitarium Bacterial Infection Remedy. I went to 3 different stores near me and not one had anything for fungal infections. This said it treats bacterial and fungal infections without harsh chemicals and it had good reviews. My severum is now running into things and hitting his...
I actually took a closer look at him a minute ago and he now has this white cloudy stuff on his tail and eyeball. Pretty sure it's a fungus. Probably a secondary infection from the ich. Honestly, I wish I had better pet stores around me because it seems that the fish I keep buying are sick...
I mean again it could be stress. Between being moved to a new tank, getting ich, having daily 25% water changes in a smaller tank and the broken filter could be stressing him out. Unfortunately at this time I have no filtered media. I bought tetras from a big chain pet store (big mistake) and...
The tank isn't cycled because I wasn't planning on putting him in this tank. I had to take him out of the larger tank because he was showing aggression likely due to the fact that another cichlid was placed in his territory. As of last night the ammonia is about 0.25ppm with no nitrites or...
