newbie with oddly acting fish needing advice please

Ooooh! I hope your lionhead is okay. I know they do have alot of problems w/bouyancy,due to the odd body shape.I have oranda's with problems periodically.I just thaw some frozen peas, gently squeeze them out of the 'shell'and they gobble them up,and usually straighten right up!I have also read...

I'm moving my fish between states?

There are also battery operated air pumps,if you want to keep aerateing the water during the drive. You can easily cut a small slit in the plastic lid of a 5g bucket for an airline. Good luck!

    mixing plant and fish water

You know if you think your pH may ba too low,you can add a bit (teeny bit)of baking soda to your water before you give it to the plants.Won't hurt'em,and will raise the pH.

    mixing plant and fish water

My goldfish tank is 6.6.Not on purpose.I just couldn't get the pH to go up,so I decided to leave it alone, since the fishes didn't seem to mind.My plants don't seem to mind either.

    mixing plant and fish water

I always water my plants with the used tank water when I do a water change.I always figured it was like natural fertilizer. My plants love it.

Well the Melafix doesn't seem to be doing anything, but stinking. Her head is still white. How long does it take to re-grow scales anyway? She is otherwise fine.Eating normally, swimming around.I'm sure she'll be fine.I hope.

    sudden betta death

Personally,I have had 3 bettas do that in one week.I kept replacing them, and they kept dying. So I stopped buying bettas. I did have one about 10 years ago, lived in a goldfish bowl, hanging from the ceiling in one of those old macrame plant hangers from the 70's.Lived for over a year. Then when I...

I heard that Oxy-Clean was a safer alternative than bleach for aquariums, though I haven't tried it myself.

If you have to move your existing filters, can you put the used filter media in the new filter? To sort of 'seed' the new filter media with your good bacteria? I have a question...won't koi get WAY too big for a 55g? I have 3 orandas in a 40g,and they are starting to look crowded. 8O BTW,I LOVE...

    Nitrite's won't go away...

Wow!You've had 2 months of high nitrItes??I'd be going nuts.My nitrItes were at 5ppm for 5 weeks, and just when I was about to give up....they were down to 0.50ppm today!Yay! Patience is good, but the water softener pillow is probably better. Two months is a loong time.I would give it a try.Heck, I...

Just great!! Fish incest!! Not what I wanted to hear! As I am almost positive my husband bought the male and female from the same lfs. They were in the same bag,so it's a safe bet! And the male is very much bothering the female!! I went to a lfs yesterday and bought 2 more females, just to the...

    Changing Gravel?

wouldn't an lfs carry something you can use?like maybe a fine mesh bag?that way you wouldn't have to worry about what type of dyes the tights are treated with.you really never know what will harm your fish.i'd be careful. did you ever notice on the packages of ordinary household sponges(like the...
