Kinda confused...?? Biological filters are a good thing; the bacteria eats the ammonia.
Adding ammonia? Never heard of that one before; ideally your ammonia level should be 0 ppm.
Ph; I don't worry about - my fish seem to be happy.

WOW Jeff!
You sure did an awesome job!.. As far as plants go; I use plants from my yard; easy in the budget..I have ferns, moss growing from rocks, some flower plants I don't know the name. I found the ones that work best for me. Some will last for six months or more.

Hello Linda,
There are many many reasons for high ammonia levels. Over crowding is one; but that doesn't seem to be your problem. How many times, how much, and what kind of water ru using? What filtration do you have.
Welcome to AA,
Mike.
I have two in my cichlid tank.
Had them since they were "pups".. Now one is 6 and the other 7 inches long. They are kewl for sure and will clean up the tank during the night. During the day they will defend their territory.

Interesting reading
Thanks guys; very interesting. FYI, when I do a water change I use rain water that I have collected; and/or well water. I never use chemicals.
Granted; I have had a few fish expire; but I think everyone has from time to time. Trying to get my keni to breed now; looks...
All great advice from folks here
I have multi filter medias; so I will clean (1) one week and leave the rest alone. Then in another week or so I will clean another (different) one. This way it doesn't upset the bacterial status. My canister filter ; I will only clean about ever six months...
125 gallon tank!
That is huge. This is what I would do;; start from scratch; put new water and let tank cycle on its own. Don't add fish or chemicals. I don't like chemicals. Check ammonia levels after 7 dayz or so; if ok add fish slowly.
