What else do I need to grow my own algae?

Would adding a cap of Fluorish help (there's lotsa trace nutrients in there that that plants feed on, but in this case, the jar has no plants, so it's all for the algae)? Algae is supposed to be in water at all times, regardless, right? This place...

What else do I need to grow my own algae?

(I've got 5 Ottos and 2 Plecos) And no algae in my tank (they must've eaten it all), or if there is any, I can't see it, because it's microscopic. No thanks to the buying of algae; I don't want to spend $4 on shipping.

What else do I need to grow my own algae?

I've got some spent tank water, a jar, and some rocks for the algae to cultivate on. What else do I need, other than sticking this combobulation outside where it will be in the sun for however many hours the sun is out, for several days?

Need pictures of what a sponge filter looks like

Oh... Whenever people talked about sponge filters, I thought it was that you got a piece of airline tubing, stick it into a pump, and on the other end you attach an air stone, and then you stick the air stone inside the piece of sponge. This looks more like those powerhead sponge filters you can...

Need pictures of what a sponge filter looks like

Bernie tried to explain to me the Physics behind it all and how it worked, but it was just too much for me. Anyway, I always hear about how people have sponge filters in tanks with fry and all that, but what is a sponge filter? I think it's just an airstone inside a filter media sponge, but I'm...

    Weekly mantainence

Currently (it's not my tank, but my parents, although I probably "mess" with it the most), I have a Whisper 30-60, which has two compartments and each compartment holds a floss-bag and a black sponge. When the floss bag gets too dirty, I take it over to the sink and thouroughly rinse it out so...

    Weekly mantainence

All I do is gravel vacuum and change out the water. That's it. While I'm vacuuming, water will automatically be sucked out, so I gotta replace it. At most, I change out 50% of the water. What other maintenance is there? I clean out my filter media when it gets too dirty, not on a schedule. If...

Any way to Evaporation-proof your tank?

I like open-top aquariums though, so those types of tanks would have to go. Is there any sure-fire method of sealing your tank so that no water can evaporate at all and then cause those mineral build-up lines to form on your tank? The hassle of topping off the tank is another thing. I don't know...

Recommend an ideal tank size for Discus fish...

What kind of fish are those with the Neon blue stripes? Doesn't look like a Neon Tetra. Also, what's with changing the water daily? How much water do you change out? They don't like the Nitrates, is that it? Other than that, if you keep their desired pH, how hard is it to keep a Discus?

    Home Sweet Home! DIY Cave...

I didn't have any fancy tools, although my dad probably did, but I didn't know where to find them, so I just found a handsaw in the tool shed out back and started hacking away. It took me forever, well maybe like 30 minutes, I don't know. Check it out, my Banjo likes to hang out in there sometimes.

    Okay to block filter suction?

I don't think snails eat poop, just leftover foods.

    Driftwood Curing

You'll never get all of the tannins out, but after doing many water changes while it's in your tank, the color will just go away or become so faint that you don't notice it anymore. Boiling it just makes the process go faster and sterilizes the driftwood, so you might be getting fungus on it if...
