Thanks for the advice autumn! I was nervous to do more than a 50% change.. As far as feeding, I do feed them very lightly once a day and they go CRAZY and all flakes are gone within seconds, they don't even have a chance to sink. These fish are SAVAGES at feeding time!! Definitely didn't...

Well, unfortunately the guppy didn't make it. I came home from work on Friday and he wasn't moving very much. He hadn't eaten in 3 days and was still floating around on his side/back.. I felt horrible, but figure he was better off out of his misery. :nono: Performed a wc on friday night for...

I didn't think he would, the bowl was just to get him away from the ACs as quickly as possible and this was all I had handy... I am thinking of getting a small maybe 2.5 or 5 gallon tank and setting it up, would be good to have as a quarantine anyways I guess.. If the lil guy is looking better...

I was very skeptical of what the LFS was telling me to begin with, and the fact that I witnessed my guppy getting sick just put me over the edge.. I will surely be avoiding the LFS for any advice from here out... Way I see it is that they are in business to sell fish, so why not tell people...

Thanks guys, I agree with you 100% and its been KILLING me to just leave the tank and not even test the water (but I knew that was the only way that I would be able to avoid performing WCs so often) I am definitely going to do a WC as soon as I get home from work today.. I just hope its not too...

So I haven't changed the water in my tank now in almost a week after being told by 2 different LFS (one chain and one aquarium only store) that I should be leaving the tank alone during the cycle process unless fish are dying.. Sounds harsh to me but I figure they must know what they are...

I usually do a water change, then fill 1 gallon containers with tap and condition them for the next change so it sits and gets about room temp. I will prepare 6 gallons for tomorrow and change like you said. I probably won't be able to get around to picking up the Prime until Tues or Wed...

Thanks beast. That's along the line I was thinking.. About how long would an AC take on average to grow 3"? Lynxx, thank u as well. I know the nitrite is too high, hence the frequent water changes. When you say back tp back changes do u mean one right after the other (ex: drain 3 gallons...

Not sure of the species of AC.. I will ask my buddy from work if he knows tomorrow. Like I said in a previous post, they are all about 1" or smaller at this point. What is the average growth rate of ACs. I'm assuming I should be ok with these babies for almost a year before I would have to...

Thanks beast! They are African Cichlids.. My pH is about 7.8 and I think the reasoning for the original guppies dying off was due to my pH being much higher than the store where I bought them.. Somehow the 1 guppy was able to make it through and now it works out since I know AC's like higher pH...

Hey everyone.. Glad I found this place, seems like there is A LOT of valuable info here that is going to help me figure out what I am doing a little easier. I currently have a 10 gallon tank with an Aqueon QuietFlow 10 filter. I placed some Aponogeton (sp?) bulbs in there when I set the tank...
